  • UAB deserves a bowl and Marshall fans deserve an entire new football coaching staff.

Do this and this would be greater than any bowl win in the last 20 years.

  • I completely agree Champ.  But I would be surprised if it did.  We get some money for going which HamWreck won’t turn down.  Plus they like the exposure which doesn’t seem to be making our brand any better.  The only weenie’s (lol it won’t write the real name.  Di€’s) sporting goods you can find Marshall stuff is in Barborsville.  You can’t even find it at a Wal Mart outside of the Huntington area.  Our program is joke,  there is no excitement within the fan base anymore and our coach who I supported up until last year keeps losing games that should be won.

  • Let me explain something. When you have a freshman quarterback who is statistically one of the best in the country, you go 7-0. When that same freshman is arguable the worst in the country (5 ints in one game, 0 first-half completions in the next) you lose. We still worried he's bolting early for the NFL? We have a good team. We can win the bowl game. We accomplished some things this season, just not what we thought we could. Quit being babies about it.

  • Holliday should be thankful we played Umass and EKu and not pitt, Ohio or boise or no chance .... no chance / herd most wins in league thanks to eku and added cupcake Umass

    Cusa teams
Herd 2-1 vs teams with overall win record
    Beat LT - 5-4 / FAU 5-3
    Lost UAb - 6-3

I’m disgruntled because we pay money for season tickets,  big green donations,  parking spaces etc..because 11 years ago I heard Doc say something like and this is paraphrased, expect the best, excellence all the time, we play for Championships...  we’ve been to 3 CUSA Championships and only won 1.  We played one bowl game against a real competitive team Last year against UCF.  We tend to lose games that make a difference in our seasons this year rice last year middle TN etc..the marquee games we get we don’t even show up or only play a good game the 1st half ie. Louisville we didn’t show up and looked lost without Litton,  we only played one half against NC State both times we played them and we only played one half last year at Boise.  All those losses are because of lack of good coaching.  Basically I feel I’m not getting the return on my investment that I’ve been making for almost 20 years now.

You are right and I would take a win over NC State or any quality P5 school than a CUSA title game.  It means our players and coaches are better.  Beating just cusa teams means players are cusa caliber with a couple rare birds sprinkled in.  Coaches same.

  • So the right thing is to give the bowl up to UAB?

    Wrong.

The right thing is go play the bowl game and win it. If Buffalo cancelled I wouldnt expect FAU to give up their bowl game.

So you want more of the same? Isnt 11 years enough? You think Doc is going to become this great coach over night? Or should we be happy we beat EKU, UMass and a few sprinkled in CUSA cupcakes and then get embarrassed a couple times a year. That is the typical Doc team.

I wouldn’t expect anyone to give up their bowl game either.  The fact is given this horrible year we’ve all dealt with is the champ of any conference should get to play in a bowl game before any other team in that conference that isn’t the champ.  That should’ve been thought out well in advance this year.  Then any bowl tie in’s left for that conference get divided between the 2nd, 3rd place and so on.  But given the way we played and lost the only 2 real competitive teams this season,  if we would’ve been COVID free playing the original schedule we probably wouldn’t have had to even worry about a bowl game this year.

What's missing in this equation? Not winning a CUSA Championship, because we have a head coach that's not capable of winning championships..

Bust you forgot to mention, canceling the game against Charlotte. The more I think about it, the more I feel like we really backed out of that game..

Go back and read the press release. Doc and Hamrick 100% backed out of that game. Not playing guaranteed winning the division and hosting the championship.

  • You know you guys are really dumping on Hammy when he has SO MUCH on his plate.  Including, I'm sure, working out the details of Doc's extension, extra perks and frills, include a bump in $$$$, and other terms, including whatever award a Conference Coach of the Year selection warrants!  So much to do; so little time!!  ;D

Of course we aren't going to back out of the bowl game 48 hours beforehand for many reasons. I don't think we could legally do that...that would make us look terrible.

But in a perfect world...and from a fan's standpoint...1.) it is a travesty we are playing in a bowl and UAB isn't, 2.) watching us get beat by a one time perennial MAC cellar dweller (in Buffalo) is much LESS exciting than Doc retiring. I truly think Doc "retiring" is a tear down the goal post worthy event. It will be the greatest moment in MU football in 20 years.

  • Even with the historical trait of a "defeatist" attitude in Appalachia, I don't think they would try to bring Doc back. As the fan base basically would not stand for it.
In an earlier post I opined that his "mission" was accomplished. Me, I believe he worked hand-in-hand with Hamrick to keep everyone marginally satisfied and enable his tenure to last 11 seasons in a weak conference.

It would not surprise me if he went out with a Nehlen-style bowl win tomorrow. Equally un-surprising would be the Herd to mail it in, in a total embarrassment. Often times just watching the players it is easy to see who is going through the motions and doesn't really want to be there. Bowls are for hungry young players to make a name for themselves and I believe we have quite a few of them. Will be interesting to see.

So lemme get this straight- you make a post stating Marshall should bow out and then state “that would make us look terrible.”   ::)

Sucks for UAB but crap happens. How many games were cancelled this season. Honestly you can’t be surprised. It’s also a good scape goat if you ask me.

Doc retiring the greatest moment in the last 20 years? Hardly. Marshall football is bigger than doc holiday.
