  • CBSsports.com writer Dennis Dodd out with an article rating the new FBS football hires for next season.

Gus Malzahn (sp) was given an A+ rating for his hire at UCF.  Coach Huff was rated one of the better new hires with a B- rating.  Dodd indicated that Huff's recruiting prowess, his relationship with Alabama and Coach Saban, and his knowledge of/emphasis on a strong running game seem to be some of Huff's strong points.

  • A B- isn't exactly the exciting review I would have hoped for; so now Charles Huff must prove this assessment wrong.

Then, too, whf, it might temper some over expectations on the part of Herd fans and give Coach Huff some breathing room, so to speak, in year 1.   Dodd noted that in replacing a Coach who for about 11 seasons averaged in the 7 to 8 wins per year category, expectations will be high in Huntington from the start.  Then, again, it IS CUSA football, after all!

  • We won the East, anything less would a down grade with everything returning.

We should never win less than 8 in CUSA

  • Well, this coming season there are 3 intriguing, if not challenging, OOC opponents before we enter CUSA play.   ECU should be better, and the game/rivalry with them, intermittent over the years, but still a rivalry to many fans of both school, IMO, should hopefully permit a near full house, hopefully, at the JOAN, pandemic permitting.  NAVY on the road in the opener presents a unique offense to contend with, and who knows how much talent, new and returning, the HERD will face down in Boone in game 4.  Go 3-1 in OOC play and we could be in for a very successful and exciting season, again IMO!

  • Anyone who would give Gus M an A+ didn't watch a lot of Auburn football over the last few years.  Also, the Kent State coach was a finalist.

  • Huff has the players to hit the ground running.  Solid OL, good stable of running backs, and solid TEs.  Hopefully the QB will live up to hype and WRs will improve.  Defense should be solid.

Marshall gets Alabama RB coach.  UCF get Auburn ex head coach.  The Marshall - UCF rivalry may still be alive even if the schools don't meet on the field.

UCF names Gus Malzahn its next football coach - Orlando Sentinel

  • So far I?m perfectly fine with our hire. If he backs up what he says we are golden.

A good coach at Marshall dominates this clown conference much like Pruett did the MAC

    It?s that weak

We backed into winning the East. Jmo. Not sure we would have beaten Charlotte had we played them. We weren?t playing well and COVID conveniently cropped up.

Huff should get 1-2 seasons to come in and establish his routine, tendencies, etc. That said, he should do well out of the gate. Cramsey may be his biggest crutch. We will see.

  • We lost to Rice @ home very badly.  Huff has a lot of work to do.  We played the normal OOC schedule last year fighting for .500.  We need better talent.
