The players are out of the town and have been for 2 weeks. They return over the weekend to begin classes on Monday. The practice schedule has not yet been announced

Does that mean anything in particular: The players are out of the town and have been for 2 weeks".

  • All players should be back in town over the weekend (most are already in town).  Weight training, scheduled pickup games, individual player skill work for the next 4-5 weeks and official practice should start in late September.  This time of the year is great.  Football getting ready to start playing games and basketball is just around the corner.  Couple that with the excitement around the soccer team and the start of the rest of the fall sports.  Go Herd!

All the players have been on campus most of the summer with the exception of Toussaint. As of Tuesday they were still trying to get his visa. The hope was that he make it to town this weekend

  • Hopefully, he is able to get in a lot of individual work, playing some with other team players, etc., in the Rec Center, etc., before team practice begins around the end of Sept or early October.  Plenty of new, incoming talent to mix with a bevy of returnees.  Should make for some interesting "battles" and competition for some starting slots and for playing time in general.  Exciting time for the team, and for the fan base overall!

Practice gets cranked back up again next week.  They are still playing pick up now virtually everyday and in the weight room 5 days a week

  • who have you got your eye on this season?

No Virgina in top 10 but Memphis is there? Haven't seen Michigan ranked that high in a while at +800.

  • Penny Hardaway is close to building a basketball empire in Memphis.  He has added Larry Brown and Rasheed Wallace to his coaching staff.  They are marketing Memphis as a stepping stone to the NBA.  With NIL an option now, they could potentially ended up being the second tier landing spot for a lot of one and done guys.  The connections that staff have nationally will be very appealing to recruits over the next few years.  They signed the top center in high school basketball, Jalen Duren for this year and are close to getting Emoni Bates to commit right now.  If he signs with Memphis (that could happen in the next day or two), they will be one of the top 2-3 teams in the country, at least on paper.

What could go wrong with Larry Brown on your staff?

Larry Brown might not have been very good about dotting the i's & crossing the t's dealing with the NCAA has a HBC, but he is highly regarded as someone who coaches basketball, both college & pro.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

  • The Herd started open workouts again yesterday. All were there except Toussaint who was getting his physical. We hope to get a look at him at 2 pm Thursday when they get together again in the Rec Center, The Cam is tied up with volleyball.
Next week we are back to 4 times weekly workouts in the Cam. They are set for Mon, Tue, Thus and Friday

Tied up with volleyball? So the guys have nowhere to practice except the chaotic rec center. We have been told on this board it was easy scheduling volleyball, men?s basketball and woman?s basketball at the CAM. The rec center is to noisy with other people in there and gullickson is just awful especially the acoustics echoing around. I have been to practices before Danny ever arrived when coaches weren?t happy because they had to cut practice short or had to go at a time when some of the players couldn?t make it because of class. A practice facility is needed.

  • Volleyball should be able to practice in the Gullickson gym. Redo the old auxiliary gym and make it a second practice facility. A new floor and paint job down there would do wonders. The band can use one of the old Science building rooms for practice and storage.

Or we could get a much needed practice facility.
