  • In addition to going viral for taking the punch from Antonio Brown, Jackson is getting some press.  The Nashville Post predicts Chris Jackson to make the 53 man roster:

    Quote
CB (6): Jackrabbit Jenkins, Kristian Fulton, Caleb Farley, Elijah Molden, Breon Borders, Chris Jackson
Behind receiver, this is Tennessee?s second-most loaded position. Jenkins, Fulton, Farley and Molden were the shoo-ins. Jackson could be a factor as a nickel back, but he could be battling Fulton or Molden for that spot. Borders has been quietly impressive in camp and preseason and he has earned his spot. Chris Jones and Briean Boddy-Calhoun are the odd men out here.

Here's an interesting piece from Nashville's SoBros Network:

    Quote
But now, he?s turning heads in camp. The Titans are in no rush to get Caleb Farley on the field, so the thinking is that Jackrabbit Jenkins and Kristian Fulton will be the Week 1 starters on the outside. Jackson has played well enough in camp that he?s shown he?s capable of sliding in and starting at the slot. He?s added some muscle, bulked up, and had a full offseason to continue to grow as a player, and it appears it?s paying dividends for him.

Just as a fan, I think this dude got the shaft in 2020. But, he?s made the most of his 2021 offseason. Mainly, I just want people to stop saying Jackson is terrible because of that PFF grade?but maybe the topic of PFF grades is a different discussion for a different day?and keep in mind that 7th round picks that come into the league and light it up right away are few and far between. Expectations, people. Some folks are going to call me crazy for this, but the fact that Jon Robinson took a 7th round draft pick, got eight games out of him his rookie season without the guy totally shitting the bed, and now he could grow into an important role on the team speaks to Robinson?s prowess as a talent evaluator. Maybe I?m overreacting to a strong training camp, and I?m unapologetically looking at this situation with my two-tone tinted glasses on, but I?m absolutely here for the Chris Jackson comeback tour.

  • How good could he have been at Marshall if they had him play the ball vs running downfield blind and hoping to throw his hands up in air at the exact right moment? Can't be a ball hawk if your system teaches to only play the man. ALL NFL CB are ball hawks.  Teaching the other way is HS ish and gets you more unnecessary flags, bad performance etc and severely limits the ints from the position.

FYI: Josh Ball hurt his ankle a couple wks ago and is still out I believe.

Speaks a lot to the difference between recruiting talent and developing that talent.  And that was vs mostly CUSA quality receivers.  I'm hoping we see a lot more interceptions to go with our uncanny ability to force fumbles.  Be a real force to be reckoned with on defense, not that we aren't already.

  • I've verbally blasted Toast longer and more intensely than just about anyone. Seen him get beat by FCS receivers. Something just doesn't seem to add up.

But he is well-spoken and a Son of Marshall so I do hope he makes it and has a good pro career, puts back some dough for himself and maybe even Marshall..

I don't know how many times it has to be said that coaching is the most important thing that determines success, at nearly all levels.

  • A lot of HS/college coaches have the same philosophy/mentality. Their view is with the 15 yd penalty rule running through the guy and never seeing the ball is worth it.  It's assinine.  Those techniques can't be perfected because it's unnatural and throwing your hands up when you see the receievers eyes look up rarely works if ball thrown properly or underthrown.  It's one reason why the back shoulder throw has become so popular. In addition, it is so much easier to run a DB out of a play.

I use to tell players at HS level to play ball but also go knock people down in your zone....like a crossing route in front of LB.  Why?  Because there is no illegal contact in HS football.  You can't tackle/hold them but as long as ball not in air to them you can knock them down or at least off route.  In college you can't do that unless receiver/back is behind LOS, but playing ball techniques can be honed and good instincts can be developed.  The ball in the air is as much your ball as it is the offenses, play like it.
