  • The FAcebook feed is REALLY good:  https://twitter.com/HerdMSoccer

You can watch pretty much entire 2nd half using that feed linked on MU soccer twitter. Just maximize the screen.

I watched 2nd half up until VT scored.  That was a great corner kick/header.  That is one thing we seem to be susceptible to. Prior to that I thought we controlled play for the most part in early 2nd half. I will say VT looked fresher. We seemed to be dragging and tired...walking off field and complaining a lot. I will watch the last 30 minutes later.

  • He played lazy and lackadaisical most of the 2nd half. VT didn?t do anything special other than take advantage of our mistakes and lack of urgency.

Long season to go but there?s no reason we should have lost this game.

  • One of those games that can make or break the rest of the season. How do they respond to the loss? Pout and whine and lose twice? Or refocus and dominate?

The HC blaming the loss on the officials. That's even more concerning.

Everyone on here can tell it was more than that. I have a feeling it's going to be a very short bandwagon ride for a lot of people.

Anyone that knows soccer knows that two PK calls within such a short amount of time is very odd. They way they were called is suspect as well. Sure, we didn't play well in the second half but getting beat by two PK's isn't normal. We'll be fine. You guys can watch NASCAR or whatever, a lot of us will be there Saturday to watch the Coastal game.

It's a long season full of ranked teams. Unlike some of our coaches, Grassie doesn't back down from ranked teams. No one expected us to go undefeated any way, except possibly the players.

  • On a more serious note, I don?t claim to know soccer well enough to strongly state y position, but I felt officiating was one sided and questionable.  For those of you who know soccer more, let me ask.

Is it allowable to grab an opposing player?s jersey and hold on enough that a spectator is shocked it didn?t rip?  That was done to Milo in the first half.

Is it allowable to grab an both sides of an opposing player?s shoulders and hold on?  It was done to Marshall players several times.

  • So I read Grassie's comments. Pretty adamant.

I haven't watched the last 30 minutes yet, but it's my understanding that a penalty kick or free kick generally not awarded on a hand ball unless it's intentional to gain an advantage.  Those who watch, know more about the sport can chime in. Having two penalty kicks on hand balls has to be an extremely rare sequence. I didn't know the two PK were awarded on hand balls.

In short term, I think we'd all like to understand the rule and how it is normally enforced.  In long term, life isn't fair and you have to move forward.  Rather have this happen now than when it really matters later

Intent certainly will create a foul, but that's not a requisite.  If the player makes himself bigger or holds his arms in an unnatural way (even unintentionally), then a foul should be called.  Its also not the entire arm, although a lot of refs don't know this - its from the bottom of the armpit to the hand.

I couldn't see the calls in the game b/c the feed was so far away, but at this level a handball offense is extremely rare b/c the players know what they're doing and avoid getting in that situation.

Just asking, but this tournament was at JMU.  Was the specific officials at the MU-Tech game a specific ACC crew?  Not familiar with soccer officiating, but like in basketball, don't crews of officials work MULTIPLE Leagues' games, matches, etc.?  With a tourney having 4 teams from 4 different leagues, you'd think those running the tourney would try to get a "neutral" crew of officials from a League not participating in the tourney.  Again, not sure if soccer officials call games in multiple leagues, which I suspect is what many of them do.

  • Still thinking about this today....I'm not concerned that we lost to the #15 team in the country. I never expected us to go undefeated.

I am very concerned with our lack of effort and urgency in the 2nd half though. I hope this is something we learn from and grow from. Our schedule is way too tough to play like that throughout the season. If we continue playing like we did in the 2nd half then we wont make the tournament unless we win the auto bid.
