  • Herd fans!  As promised, here are my thoughts on my first visit to Huntington this past weekend.

Marshall fans are everything people say they are.  Yall were the nicest, most hospitable, most genuinely friendly folks Ive ever been around.  From the moment we arrived in Huntington, we had people go out of their way to welcome us.. be it at the hotel, Kroger, HOF Cafe, and the several other bars/restaurants we hit during the weekend.  Everyone asked me 'is everybody being good to you??'  They would follow that by letting me know where I could find them on Saturday before the game.  It was great, and I never felt on the defensive or like some sort of abuse was coming.

We found a spot on the street between Chipotle and Sheetz, and were immediately welcome by the Marshall fans nearby, as well as Marshall gameday staff in their golf carts.  (Being able to tailgate next to a Sheetz is amazing, by the way.. clean bathrooms, A/C, and if you run out of beer? well, there ya go.  We dont have that in Greenville.)

We found Go1970Herd and his crew a couple hours in, and I dont think we left until kickoff.  What a great group of folks.  Great food, really good conversation, and lots of beer and shots pre-game.

I love the Joan.  Such a cool stadium, and you could feel the history.  Ive seen it so many times on TV, but this was my first time there.  The concourse area reminded me a lot of Dowdy-Ficklen, and we had great seats in 103.  The Herd fans were loud, knowledgeable, and friendly, even during the game.  When yall got up big, there was no trash talking.  When we pulled off the miracle comeback, we were thanked for coming and given recommendations on where to go after the game.  No cussing, no threats.. just thanks.

First-class all the way around.  Thank you for a great weekend, and I hope yall kick Apps ass on Thursday.  I may even dig up a green shirt for it.

  • I think many mistake our rabid fanbase at times with those up NORTH. I've been to Greenville and Tailgated on Fieldside street to watch the Herd play and received nothing but the same hospitality from ECU fans.

  • Glad your experience was positive.  I have been to MU games at ECU a few times and was always treated well by your fans.  It was a wild game and wish you guys the best the balance of the season.  I live in NC and now headed over on Thursday to App St.

  • Thanks for coming back to let us know about your trip. Marshall fans and the people of Huntington take great pride in being good hosts. Part of that is our culture and part of that is we want to make sure people know we aren't anything like what they experience in Morgantown.

You guys showed a lot of heart and your coach took a lot of gambles that paid off. You guys earned the win and these are the types of wins that can change a culture. I have a ton of respect for the ECU program, and wish you all nothing but success the rest of the season.

  • I'm in the minority maybe on here, however I think the game will be very close.

  • Honestly, we aren't sure what to expect from Marshall either. We have played two terrible teams so far. At times, we have looked like a Top 25 team. At others, we have looked like a struggling G5 team who will win 6-8 games.

It will really depend on whether we take care of the ball or not imo. We are capable of having 3-4 turnovers for no reason. We are capable of putting up 600 yards and 50 points....we aren't sure what to expect either.

We looked like a Top 25 team and a struggling G5 all during the same game lol

Was great meeting you all and glad you all had an awesome experience with all the Herd fans and with an awesome ballgame that I had to shake my head at over what all transpired over the last 7 minutes of the game with the Herd up by 17. Hope our new coach learns a couple things from this loss.

Hope we all can hook up again down at ECU and here again of coarse the next time you all come and play or hell even if you are up this way and just want to go to another Herd game or out for some cold ones.

Till next time and Lets Go Herd and ECU the rest of the year
