  • 4th and 2, we go for it and throw a low percentage ball into the endzone and turn over on downs.  Should have got the first down on a short pass or a run, first.  Then take a shot if you want to.

3rd and 9, We run the ball and get 4 yards and then miss a field goal try.  You need a 10-12 yard pass here.  Why would you run it?  We've made those passes all game long.

We made other mistakes and did other things well, but those two plays are coaching blunders and frankly Doc ball.  Two back to back possessions squandered.  I don't know if we'll win or lose at this point, but I know I stopped watching or caring at this point.

  • Honorable mention goes to taking out Ali and putting Evans in after Ali was gaining 9 yards a carry and Evans got 1 yard.

  • Two big problems are situational football play calling and a lack of talent.   Our secondary and lbs played awful.  I am not surprised by the secondary play bc it has been bad since since Roberts played here.  We have been good in the secondary 1 season since Pruett.  Small, weak and slow.

  • Epic collapse. Our secondary lost this game but Muther is right, Huff going for it on 4th and 2 was epic stupidly. The secondary is just plain pitiful

  • He has a special teams background and our guys watch the football roll 10 yards with 4 Pirates guys around it ?

Clock management reminiscent of Mark Snyder. Flexibility reminiscent of Doc.

Plus I would have tried the other kicker after last week's horribly missed FGA with no apparent bad snap.

    Just a giveaway.

Going for it was fine.  Taking a shot at the endzone 30 yards away was stupid.  Ali gets two yards in his sleep.

The decision to go for it wasn't wrong imo, but the execution of it was... get the first down,  don't have to try to score then.

  • Going for it was the right call.  It seems to me that Wells rarely goes through his progressions.  Maybe I'm wrong.  I'm not going to be overly harsh, they're playing a lot of new players and I always thought that it would be three years in until you can rightfully judge the new staff.  However, I'm not sold on Wells.  I think part of the reason Cramsey was retained was familiarity.  I was under no illusion that ECU would be a cakewalk.

And by the way, they should have an open audition for a kicker.

We lose even if we'd made that field goal.  And the onside kick thing is still coaching.

  • Guys, we don?t have a QB that is capable of playing at the level we need. Did you all not see him nearly spike the ball on 4th down at the end of the game and the coaching staff had to call a time out?

Wells plays his heart out and his passing yards look great, but the INTs have quickly added up and it?s killing the team.

After 3 games, he has 4 TDs and 5 INTs.

Just for the record, it wasn't that great when Roberts was playing here.

  • I agree it was two plays but it wasn't the same two you picked. Fumble by Gammage and Missed FG. Honorable mention for Wells INT to close the game. Double covered and even without the backend help Gammage was blanketed by the corner. Mental mistakes!

I think you are dead on regarding most of what you say, but "if" we made that FG, we would have had a chance at making another FG at the end of the game to win.

Gaines was open down the middle on that last play.  Two plays before that, on the incompletion to the outside in the endzone, Keaton was running down the middle and was literally the only player between the hash marks from the line of scrimmage to the end zone.  He was the most open wide receiver in the history of football.  They simply didn't cover him.

Agree. I like going for it on 4th and 2 but to throw a very low percentage ball in that situation is a total mistake. Huge turning point in the game that really started the downturn.

Why was that stupid when we have a middle school kicker? Probably should go for it every time until we find a kicker worth a damn.

It seems like the three or four plays the OC calls for GW to use in certain game situations that GW always goes for the deep ball. If its fourth and three he throws it deep even when he has an open receiver eight yards downfield. Coaches need to lock him up in the film room and let him watch hours and hours of CP's game taking what the 'D' gives you. An eight completion on fourth down to pick up a first is a hell of a lot  better than a 30 yard incompletion.
