  • obviously the roster could change in a year, but by my estimation this commit, if signed, brings the 2022 scholarship count to 13.  Jaden Daughtry
is the only other offer i currently know about.  what say you guys that know way more than i do?

    Andrew Taylor
    Jeremy Dillon
    Marko Sarenac
    Goran Miladinovic
    Devin Collins
    Obinna Anochili-Killen
    David Early
    C. J. Meredith
    Kyle Braun
    Wyatt Fricks
    Chase McKey
    Creighton Thieneman
    Aymeric Toussaint
    Jacob Conner
    Micah Handlogten

That all looks correct to what everyone expects for next year but, unless I am mistaken, Taevion Kinsey (by way of the free Covid year) would be eligible to return in 2022-2023 if he so chooses.  I don't expect that at all but it could possibly happen.

  • The player's father is Ben Handlogten, who played for Western Michigan and the Utah Jazz. He was listed at 6-11, 240 as an NBA player. When Micah Handlogten joins Chase McKee on the Herd roster, we will have two sons of former NBA players competing.

Here are Ben Handlogten's career stats:

Season   Age   College           G   PTS   TRB   AST
    1992-93   19   WMICHIGAN   27   5.9   5.7   0.7
    1993-94   20   WMICHIGAN   28   8.9   7.1   0.8
    1994-95   21   WMICHIGAN   27   4.7   3.1   0.1
    1995-96   22   WMICHIGAN   27   15.7   8.8   1.6
    Career                                 109   8.8   6.2   0.8

Season   Tm   Lg   Pos   G   TRB   AST   PTS

  • Just for fun I decided to put the players heights next to the players names on the projected roster for next season.  So this roster would have 8 players 6'8 or taller and no one shorter than 6'3.

    Andrew Taylor - 6'3
    Jeremy Dillon - 6'5
    Marko Sarenac - 6'7
    Goran Miladinovic -7'0
    Devin Collins - 6'8
    Obinna Anochili-Killen - 6'8
    David Early - 6'4
    C. J. Meredith - 6'6
    Kyle Braun - 6'3
    Wyatt Fricks - 6'9
    Chase McKey - 6'9
    Creighton Thieneman - 6'4
    Aymeric Toussaint - 6'9
    Jacob Conner - 6'8
    Micah Handlogten - 7'0

Early, Taylor and Braun. Then Conner is a PG according to the whole staff. We are good at the guard spots.

Would they consider playing a 1-3-1 defense with that length?  Especially if Conner at 6'8 is a guard.

  • While I haven't gone to practice often, when I have both Marko and Dillon have played very well at times and seem capable. Both need to get "over the hump" with in-game confidence to be the guard depth we need.  I would be interested what Herdmeister could tell us what Danny or other players think of them.  I, too, am interested in us recruiting another 6-3 to 6-5 scorer, a roll Early fills perfectly, with a 2023 scholarship.

They are definitely  going to be playing zone more. I look for Danny to start playing a lot of zone and making it his primary defense. He loves the length his is getting. I figure they will go with a couple different looks.

Danny has said Marko has really been stepping it up. We mentioned how much better Marko looks this year and Danny has noticed.

Gosh this is so great to hear. This is college, not the NBA....we definitely need to be running some zone.

News flash 129, zone defenses are legal & often utilized in the NBA. This has been true for quite awhile now.

Newflash...I never said it was illegal in the NBA.

Even though it's legal, no one runs a lot of zone as shooters at that level are so good it doesn't make sense.

So back on topic, it's past time for us to start running some zone at Marshall.

With a guard well under 6 feet in West, we could absolutely not run a zone.. Our size has now made it possible. We did see some glimpses of a match up zone previously when West was not in the game

How long has DD been here? How long was West here?

Exactly. That might be the reason we didn't run the zone the last few years, but this has NEVER been DD's philosophy or style. So for that reason, I am very glad he is letting go of some of that stubbornness and actually going to play some zone now. Who knows, he might get a wild hair and even call a timeout before a team goes on a 20-0 run.

You also realize his first few years our big was Ryan taylor don?t you? We didn?t have much length until the last few years and by that time West was our PG. Danny believes for the first time we have the length as a team to play zone. Let?s let him coach just like we need to let Huff coach. I?ll guarantee both have forgotten more about their sport than anyone on here will ever know about the game.

    LOL....always excuses.

It's more than ok to just say that DD has grown and is getting better as a college coach the same way he has grown and is getting better as a recruiter.
