Reading this board is like listening to middle school girls chatting about cute boys and watching how quickly they go up and down the likable scale should they say something gross or creepy or really cool or some other notion or look or act that instantly changes their likable status. Good grief.
Huff has been a head coach for 4 games, not just 4 at Marshall, 4 total. Did anybody really think he was going to post a perfect season and never make a coaching mistake?
I don't know if he's the right coach or not AND nobody else does either, but throw out your cute boy or gross boy likes all you want, just understand that's what it is. And since it's a 50/50 coin flip, many on here can claim one day that they knew from the Navy game that he was a winner or that they knew from the ECU epic fail that we had hired a loser. But cute boy or gross boy tweets really don't mean much.
The reality is that to be good at ANYTHING you take your lumps and learn from your mistakes and develop skills and relationships and motivation and teamwork and more. Somewhere in year 3 we will know for sure what we have, or if we are lucky maybe by the end of year 2.
What we do know is that the offensive scheme is exciting and that we have the OLine, WRs, RBs, and a QB that can put points on the board and make big plays at anytime. No more boring. We've moved the ball all over the field in 4 games. Sometimes we are too aggressive when we just need to get the first down, or use the OLine to get 4 yards in the Redzone. BUT we all wanted not boring. Will Huff and Cramsey and Wells learn how to balance aggressive play with higher percentage plays at certain times? Well, that's what we'll have to see.
What we do know is that the defensive scheme is risk-taking. High blitzing. Aggressive Dbacks harassing WRs. When we match up well it's an awesome defense. When a skilled team figures out our weak points and can execute, it can be frustrating to watch. Getting the players Huff needs to play this defense will take time. And learning how to manage it against teams as more and more game film adds up will be a challenge.
Give Huff and his staff time to figure out how to do this. And let's enjoy the games. All four have been wonderful games: 2 because we dominated and 2 because we played great at times and they came down to the last few minutes against rivals. From what I've seen we have a great chance to win the CUSA East. I can't wait to watch every game.
