  • I will say this - when he is playing on MNF I hope he says Marshall when listing his school. I think he does owe the program that much.

  • I've watched most of 2 of the Notre Dame games.  He's still pretty dominant in pass protection, but the line is a mess in the run game.  It seems like, from what I've observed, the left side of the line just collapses.  Only averaging 2.3 yards an attempt - of course, they've played a very difficult schedule, but that's still anemic.

Lots of calls to replace Cain on Notre Dame sites, but apparently they aren't thrilled with the progress of the youngsters behind him.

  • Man it would be awesome to have him again this season.  But he had a once in a lifetime opportunity.   He would have been crazy to pass up going to Notre Dame.  I love Marshall, but I would have done the same thing.

Speaks volumes to your character. Thanks for letting me know.

There is a BIG DIFFERENCE in someone transferring here because of playing time, or some worthy reason, same for transferring away. But it's quite another when you are starting and contributing and just decide to bail on your teammates and school for greener pastures.

Happy for them my ass. Just like Yulee once said, if you a dog they gonna find you no matter where you're playing, and that's true. It's not costing anyone money to play here at Marshall.

Lol, your right.  A young person shouldn't take an opportunity and make the best of it.  Imo, tells me more about you as a person than myself.  What did he owe us?  He was in the 2016 class and played through the 20 season.  Far from abandoning the program and team.  Guess we will have to agree to disagree.

There is absolutely no one on here that is a bigger MU fan than me.  I literally grew up on campus.  Most of you on here know that.

That said, if I got my degree from Marshall and had an opportunity to get a Master's degree, free, from Notre Dame - I'd take the leap in a heartbeat.

  • Yes silly comparison as Moss was dismissed after violating parole.  And he never played in a game at FSU, only the spring game.

  • I have equal disdain for anyone that comes here and Marshall gives them an opportunity that these bigger schools wouldn't, and then they leave once Marshall give them a chance and a stage, then the big boys make an offer. I'd spit in their faces if it was me, but that was how i was raised. You show loyalty to the ones that believed in you when nobody else did.

This reminds me of how I feel about Chase Litton and his ill-fated early jump to the NFL. I never let Chase forget about the way he did Marshall for nearly four years on Twitter. And as I explained here earlier, leaving here early actually was a bad move for him, considering that 5 first round quarterbacks were picked in the NFL draft when he left early (2018).

Yeah, more to life than college football which for almost all who play it is over at the age of 21, or 22.  Players DO have to think what is the best paths for them for the remaining 75 to 80 per cent of their lives.  Some clods on here can see or understand that, apparently.

Difference in you going for a degree and having teammates here that you turned your back on. Although loyalty means little to some these days. I like to keep those people out of my circle

We are talking 2 different things.   You are mad about a kid choosing wisely for his future vs loyalty.  I don't know what world you live in, but in the professional world it's dog eat dog. College football IS a professional setting now. Loyalty means jack crap to most people in a professional setting any more. Btw, I consider myself very loyal, I have been at the same job since I left college in 2007, same girl since 2001(wife), same best friend since 1987 and a marshall fan since birth(dad played here in 74).  So you sir have no clue what your talking about. Good day.

Loyalty gets you nothing in your career and hasn?t for a couple decades. I watch people with 10 years at a company get promoted into a role for 20% less pay than an external hire with sketchy experience at best. Whether you like it or not, Cain is trying to make the best career choice he can and I don?t see how we can hold that against him

Did you even read what I posted?  I have Cain Maddens back, just telling 24 that single post doesn't define someone's character or "loyalty". Btw, loyalty has gotten me a great family and wife.  A very very high paying job and a "friend" who is a brother now.  I just don't think loyalty matters all that much at this level of athletics, Cain got his degree here and getting a masters from ND.  Pretty darn smart and awesome if you ask me.  Plus he will 100% get drafted higher from ND than if he stayed here, regardless of what I or any other MU fan thinks.

So if Cain Madden gets drafted and it says "with the 23rd pick out of Notre Dame, the ______ select Cain Madden".....then you wont post on this board for an entire year? If you replace Notre Dame with Marshall then I won't post for a year?

  • So let's see, Madden recruited by Doc, played 3 to 4 years for Doc and staff, got his degree. had one year of eligibility, apparently, left, and went to another school.

Anyone else notice that players recruited by Doc and his staff LEFT every year, sometimes to play elsewhere?  Did anyone else notice that Doc was not retained after the end of the 2020 season?  Fact is that after coaching changes at all schools, players UP and LEAVE!!  Is not a RARE phenomenon in college sports, including football!  Key factor seems to be that Madden was a very good player, even accorded some All American honors.  What about some of the other players on MU's team last year who were not standouts, or had little playing time at MU, yet ended up leaving to play elsewhere?  Why aren't they being criticized?  Their loyalty questioned?

Do the same people criticizing players like Madden, Jannson Williams, and the Jarrod Wests of the world for leaving MU take the same stance and position when it comes to QUALITY players/athletes transferring TO MU?  I think not.  Hell, people are saying one big problem we are having defensively this season is because we lost some quality players, like linebacker Tavante Beckett.  How may realize that Beckett LEFT Virginia Tech with eligibility remaining to come to MU?  Or the fact that one of MU's greatest basketball teams which went to the NCAA tournament led by MIke D'Antoni back in the 70s had a star forward, Randy Noll, who came to MU as a transfer from Kentucky!  Danny D'Antoni has an assistant coach, Corny Jackson, who formerly played for the HERD AFTER transferring in from Tennessee!  Oh, and one of Danny's first teams at MU found some good  success led by a big forward named James Kelly  who played ONE season for the HERD after transferring from Miami, FL.  It happens almost daily, folks, at colleges and universities across the country.  Don't dwell and brood on it.  In any event, I note that all three of the players I've mentioned all stuck around long enough and made the effort to be GRADUATES OF MARSHALL UNIVERSITY!!
