  • Our secondary is putrid. I am not sure who that coach is but he needs to be sent packing after the season. Just atrocious. Teams either complete a pass against us, or get a PI or Hold call.

  • The numbers speak for themselves. Although there are a few considerations:
    - Run heavy Navy. Over 300 yds but Navy was never in the game. Navy played AF next who is used to defending triple option and could see Navy couldn't pass football
    - Appy State has a really good Oline and really good backs
    - Defense only had 4 days recovery after exhausting ECU game
    - The tempo has hurt the defense
    - The turnovers before Appy were a factor too as an already tired defense forced to get back on field quickly
    - Missed tackles at the LB/secondary level may be impacted by fatique/lack of depth.

I would like to see staff vary the tempo. Go fast, slow it down for a few plays, go fast again etc. This, imo, would really keep the defense off guard.  We have to be better in redzone or teams will protect more vs big plays and be happy to allow us to try FGs.  If the things listed above are really big factors than varrying tempo and practice tackling/building depth should eliminate most of those. Losing those 2 guys does impact the talent/depth. Both were beasts.  Lack of pass defense hurts vs rush too because pass rushing/covering is more exhausting than playing run. If the DBs are taught not to play/attack ball than we might as well recruit 6'3 WR types to play pass coverage.

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

  • No doubt Lambert can coach defense.  However the defense is lacking talent, especially on the backend.  Who knows if the defense would be better or worse with him here.  All I know is right now our d coordinator is terrible.  Regardless of talent it is his responsibility to coach them up.

The only talent difference between this year and last in the secondary is Jackson and most on here thought he was horrible.

Which Jackson? Do you mean Chris Jackson?  He wasn't even on the team last year.

  • I thought Lambert was a good defensive coach.  I also understand why Huff would not want him as he was also considered for the HC job.  I am curious to see if Huff is willing to let go friends if they don?t work out.

Offense also needs to be able to run clock when needed to help the defense out.  They have been gassed in the last 2 4h quarters.

Mike Bartrum was one of the on campus interviews and Huff kept him.  Maybe Huff really wanted Guidry.  I would guess, at the moment, he?s having buyers remorse on that choice.  But it?s still early and Guidry can hopefully turn things around.

The only difference is Pitts.  And he was not good for team morale, from what i hear.  And I was underwhelmed with his talents too.

Lambert was gone regardless (once he was not going to be the HC).

Huff chose Guidry and for what reason I?m not sure, but regardless the buck stops with Huff.

My guess is, they have the same agent.

What I meant was, Huff kept Bartrum as a coach even though he interviewed for the job.  One of the posters mentioned maybe Huff didnt retain Lambert was because he also interviewed for the position.

There is a huge difference though, Bartrum was never a serious candidate to be the head coach, while the obvious final two were Lambert and Huff.

Lmao who knows? Results speak for themselves. See our defense drop 100+ positions in the rankings from one end of the spectrum to another.
