  • MTSU has a big weekend planned for the Marshall game.  Black Out, Family Weekend, and Hall of Fame induction all rolled into one weekend game vs Marshall.

Extended weather forecast is sunny and 82 degrees with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.  Plenty of time for people to get off work and/or make the drive and attend the game.

Expect the best effort from the MTSU team, coaches, athletic department, and the 12th man.  Will probably be a good size crowd of MTSU families, students, alumni, fans and ex-players.  A lot of pressure on the MTSU to pull off the upset.  The game is being broadcast by Stadium.

Marshall opened as a 12 point favorite but the line has moved to 10 point favorite.  Money is coming in for MTSU to cover.  Over/Under is 63.5.  Vegas is expecting to see a lot of offense and little defense.

After watching MTSU and Charlotte play each other past weekend, I will be very disappointed if Marshall loses to either team.

  • Agree, E-Man.  IRC, HERD has NEVER had an easy time/game with the Blue Raiders down there since we've been in CUSA.  One thing that gives me some "extra" hope is that the team and staff have had a couple of extra days to prepare for this game.  Huff is certainly NO dummy and is well aware of its importance, being the conference opener, coming off 2 tough, late games losses, etc.  Hopefully, he and the staff have been able to work on the defense a little more this week, including some more "live" tackling, insomuch as is allowed now under the practice rules, regs, guidelines, etc.!

If we lose multiple games to teams like MTSU then yes I'm serious.

If we lose 2/4 to ODU/MTSU/Charlotte/FIU then his seat should be hot imo. If we lose to 3 of them then he should be gone.

You guys can't be serious in thinking that losing to those teams should be acceptable....even for a 1st year coach.

  • Huff needs to show he is capable of making changes to what we have been doing on defense.  Navy and NCC did not expose how bad we are on defense.  We still have teams on our schedule that can throw the ball all over the field.

I was thinking a possible special season when we dominated Navy but it did not carry over.  Likely headed to 7-5 and at best 8-4.  Same as Doc just in a different manner.

We would be ranked right now if we held on to the big 4th quarter leads we had.

He's right. If we end up 4-8 or some crap with a qb like wells etc, then he needs fired before he can do any more damage

  • I am surprised they are not pulling out the old trick Akron used to employ; 2 cans of corn gets you admission to the game. Maybe today with inflation it would cost 4 cans of corn and mtsu fans just aren?t willing to go to that expense.

The simple answer is yes.  This team would have gone 8-4 this year under Doc.  If Huff goes 6-6 cut your losses early.  There were questionable decisions he made when putting together his staff and now we are seeing major mistakes with ingame coaching decisions.

He is a good talker and now he needs to be a good coach.  We all know he won?t be let go no matter what he does this season but there has been nothing to show yet that he is a good coach.  More energetic than Doc, absolutely, better coach than Doc, early results would say no.

How do you know we would have gone 8-4 under Doc? No one thought we would go 3-9 in 2016 either.
Doc lost the team last year and we can?t assume anything would have changed this year under his watch.

OK Let me get THIS right, you can?t see the difference in keeping someone for 10 years and for one month?  THAT is the definition of unreal.

As a new coach Huff definitely deserves a chance to build his own system with his own players.  Not to mention he has a contract that runs for four years which would require spending a lot of dough to prematurely fire him and to hire a new coach.

Firing prematurely may be a long running problem in your life, but Marshall doesn?t have that problem. Waiting too long was the problem under Doc.  Not too surprising you fail to comprehend the difference.

LOL, Any coach that's hired in football normally gets anywhere from 3-5 years as a coach to win, unless you're Doc Holliday, lol. Coach Huff has Docs players and will get time to build his own program. Even the greatest college football coach of all time Nick Saban had a losing season his first year at Alabama, even losing to Louisiana-Monroe. I'm not saying coach Huff is Saban, but he deserves a chance of getting his players here.. So, Yeah, IT'S UN-FREAKING REAL! for you to call for a coaching change after year one.

If anyone should be an expert on major mistakes a coach makes it should be you. After we all witnessed 11 years of mistakes by the previous coach that was here.. Doc couldn't even beat startup Charlotte, never won at Middle Tenn, etc.. I'm not so sure you will ever get over losing Doc as coach here..

If you want to live in mediocrity then sure...we keep coaches who finish 6-6 in CUSA. That's the same mentality that made us keep Doc for so long.

The only reason to go 6-6 in CUSA, with this OOC schedule would be because we hired the wrong person as HC. Period.

I'm still a Huff fan, I'm still all in as a matter of fact. BUT....if we lose to MTSU then 6-6 is very possible, and if that's the case his seat should be hot. If we finish with a losing record then he should be fired. That's JMO.
