  • Butler not bad. Last game lost to Nova 0-1 but outshot them 19-3 despite having 3 players out with injuries/COVID. Prior to that they had wins vs Uconn 1-0, and then ranked Lipscomb 3-1.

  • Good win tonight. We looked pretty dang good imo. Looks like we are starting to find some balance as we controlled possession most of the game.

Is it just me or should Ajety (spelling?) play more?

  • Solid win against a Big East team.  The early goal by Dolabella kept Butler from sitting on the ball.  Thought we had a couple wasted chances that could have put it away early.  When Dias got behind the defenders and had clear goal he waited too late to pull the trigger.  That was a goal just waiting to happen.

Adjetey's speed is really something, appears faster than Yosef.  Similar to Diop, he doesn't protect the ball as well as the people ahead of him.  Unlike Souza or Diop, he doesn't play the center forward position as well, so that sets him over on the side where Fernandes plays so well.

I'm hoping in the next couple of weeks ahead we can get more subs in.  Getting a couple goals up in the first half will help.  Players like Diop, Adjetey, Lino need more playing time to get their touch better.

CUSA wins the next two weekends will help tremendously.

  • The one big thing that concerns me is that we are still not handling pressure well when the opponent is marking us in or defensive third of the field. Plus we are making a lot of dangerous passes in front of the face of our goal.

We're getting better on the defensive side , but yeah, playing around with it in front of our goal drives me nuts. Clear it out and start from there.

  • those deep possessions have a lot to do well, possessing the ball rather than just booting it out.  we also used that to tire the strikers of opponents last year in our successful run.  certainly a bad pass in that situation could cost a goal, but it looks like we possess the skill to possess it deep with our defenders and sweeper keeper so I'm down with it.  don't just clear it, rec league soccer ended a long time ago for our players.

We given the ball away multiple times this season in bad positions by passing into traffic in front of the net.
I agree, don't make the default booting the ball deep, but don't make bad percentage passes near the penalty area.

  • For game I had MU down for 15 chances with 10 being good chances. I had Butler down for 7 chances with 3 being good chances. Just like a shot not on goal can still be a good chance for a score, a shot on goal can really be no chance at all.  At least 3 of Semmle saves were lollipop shots from deep with nobody around him and I didn't register them as chances. I felt MU has pretty firm control of this game more than any other we've played since the ETSU game.

Their defender made a great play to keep ball out on Diop rebound and Dollabella could have had hat trick with a great header off crossbar.  I also agree, at times, we are waiting too late to take shots when there is plenty of room. Two seconds later that window closes. Butler did that a couple of times too. I also get nervous about passing in middle deep in our zone and when Semmle seemingly waits until last second to move ball. Lately, however, those haven't resulted in big TOs like we had earlier in yr.

I also would like us to use more subs. Adams, Rafeal, Lino, Biop, Adjety are all good enough to play more IMO.  I do think 2-3 of them are banged up a little.

Sunday @ODU 2pm.  Also on Sunday Charlotte (RV) plays at FIU (#21) in a key league game. Akron plays at WVU one day this weekend.

  • Starting Souza is the call

Diop and Lino are better suited as energy subs late in each half
