  • One thing is certain Coach Huff has a little bit of an ugly temper, which is pretty common for young Coach.

I get the idea of giving reps to those on the bench.

However if the shoe was on the other foot and we were being shutout And beat by 6 tds, I wouldn?t appreciate their efforts to score, with 15secs left.

  • I like coach Huff but I thought what he did was bush league.  I remember a long time ago we were on the other end of a similar scenario with the hated little miami foreskins. >:(

  • It's bush league to our players to tell them to practice hard and finish only to get in a game and milk the clock with run plays up the middle. It's bush league to our fans to ask us to stay the entire game to watch dive plays up the middle as the clock ticks down.

I don't really give a %^&* what Butch or anyone else at FIU thinks about it to be honest. The only part that sucked is we didn't connect with a long TD pass to beat their (@/:; 45-0.

Taking the high road is always the right path. Does anyone think that having a player throw two passes with less than thirty seconds to go because you have a beef with the opposing coach is meaningful game experience?

Do you think having the QB just hand it off up the middle every play is meaningful game experience?

  • I also wondered why we were piling it on, but I see that the reserves should get a meaningful experience.

There are other options between that and calling a timeout to throw deep. Just saying.

  • Whether right or wrong, I don't think Huff or MU needed this discussion right now. Too much good going on to even have this as a topic of discussion IMHO.  But you reap what you sew, so having a reason for what one does is pretty important.

  • It's not our job to call off the dog's if we are whooping someone. The opposing team needs to stop us and if they can't then oh well.  Trust me if any team had a chance to put up points on Marshall late in the fourth, they would have and have done.

  • This response was on a Marshall Facebook forum and posted by Marshall coach and former player, Doug Chapman:

This will likely be the only time I comment in this forum, but I would like to properly address this post.

We have players on our team that you?ve never heard of that practice hard every single day. They deserve the opportunity to reap the rewards of their hard work, and when the opportunity is there our staff puts them in a position to do so. Should our backup QB never be allowed to pass? Should our 3rd team WR never be allowed to catch a pass in college? Would you like to come to practice this week & tell our backups to continue to practice hard but if they get in don?t expect to do in the game what you practice all week? What do we tell the parents of recruits? That if your son comes here & isn?t a starter, he will never be allowed to show his skills?

Lastly, FIU could have kneeled and went home but they chose to throw a deep ball on 4th down. So when we got the ball back we returned the favor with our DESERVING reserve players. So yes this is who WE ARE. We are about giving hard working young men the chance to display their skills when the opportunity presents itself.

Thank you for your support & #LFGoHerd

This right here!!!!! Huff's allegiance is to our players first, not FIU's team. Heck even in HS football you let the backups play, who wants to go in just to take a knee? If that's the case just leave the first string in and let them take the knee. Also, it's just a game it's not life and death here.

  • I think you wouldn't know what class was if it jumped up and bit you in the a$$.  I think it's classless to call out the coach's perceived lack of class on a message board, anonymously.  Why don't you go tell him to his face what you think of him?  Oh yeah, because you not only don't have class but you also lack integrity.  Now stfu and quit whining.

  • Well, hopefully over the long haul of his tenure as the HERD's HC, Coach Huff and his teams will make a lot MORE TROUBLE for the HERD's foes than for Marshall itself!  Feel pretty sure that will be the case.

  • Coach Huff is about as classy as it gets imo.

I've been a little critical of the on field results in a few games, but there's no way anyone can complain about him as a person, his character, or how he represents himself and this University.

  • Every HC we hire in every sport is entitled to a "grace" period, so to speak, a learning curve period if you will.  Coach Huff is NO exception.

Problems only arise is when a coach is in his 10th season or so and still displays that he is in the "learning curve" period and, consequently, the Athletic Director does NOTHING!  I won't mention "Any" Names!   ;) ;)
