  • I remember the loss to Charleston as well.  Was it still Morris Harvey at the time?  I think they had another guard by the name of Gordon.  They both could shot!

Back around that period, I believe MH had a good guard who was from Huntington High.  One of their stars back during the Ellis Johnson era, IIRC, was Henry Dickerson from Beckley, who later was an assistant at MU.

  • Speaking of sharpshooters. Do you remember the year Charleston took MU to woodshed in 1980's?  I believe their guard was Keith Tyler and they had another inside guy that played real well..but Tyler ripped it up from outside.

Chris88...I remember Keith Tyler.  Here is what I found from a University of Charleston link:

    1985-86 30-5 (19-0)
    HIGHLIGHTED OPPONENTS
    Split with Marshall, (94-73 @ Civic Center 11/23/85, Keith Tyler 33 points; 100-106 @
    Huntington)

Thanks...yea 33 sounds about right. I found that Tyler is 2nd all time scorer at UC. Ron Gaitor was the inside guy that killed us that night.

Should we start a new thread about how Zeffalloto/Huckabey should have recruited Tyler:)

Just a heads up, both spelled their names differently.. Bob Zuffelato and Rick Huckaby. Both were very good coaches. Huck's Herd was very exciting back in the day..

TeeGee, Herdmiester , Connie, JR Vanhoose, Woody, Dan Shoemaker, and others. It was a good community of Marshall supporters, more intimate with the program and players.Great times for basketball until Moon or whoever decided to bring Huckaby down, which brought on  lean times for the basketball budget.

Don't Emil Boatwright(SP?) from Logan that gave the Herd fits when they played Morris Harvey back in the 1970s.

I'll never forget talking to Huck in the parking lot of the Joan. We were talking about what went down when his coaching days ended here. Lee Moons name came up and ironically Moon just happened to appear near us. Huck said, there goes  that so and so, I wish you could have seen how pissed off Huck looked. There was definitely bad blood between the two.
