  • The FIU job.  He knows C-USA, he can certainly recruit (lead recruiting) in Florida, and he can get good assistant coaches to believe in him.  If he is a candidate, hope he gets it as I'm quite confident he would be much better there than Butch Davis was.

Don't understand this logic from a Herd fan.

They won't be in our league, he is a good man who loves football, they have never been able to recruit good athletes, it is a huge university, and I wish him well; regardless of his results at MU.  Just think it would be a great match.

  • I figure Docs finished coaching, and probably is enjoying the retired life. However, lets say he did go coach at FIU. I could see him doing a decent job there and getting 6-7 wins per season.

Maybe even a couple more, GD, if they remain in CUSA as "watered down" as that League will be based on some of the "names" thrown around as potential members!

  • FIU's problems are much deeper than their coach issues.  Doc was middling here with every advantage.  He would not flourish where their football team is less esteemed and supported than our basketball team, by the university and where they borrow old pads from SEC teams that upgraded..

And I never felt Doc loved football.  I felt he was a wrestler that needed a paycheck.  I never saw an ounce of enjoyment or emotion out of him that wasn't screaming at a player or a ref, since the crocodile tears when he was hired.  But even if the culture was tainted, it is up to the new coach to get that changed and understood before the season starts rather than after it is too late.  "I don't care how things used to be.  This is how it is and will be.  If you don't like it, there's the portal.  If you are here in the morning, this is what I expect from you."

  • Doc has served his time and reaping the rewards. I still think he has a cabin somewhere around Webster Springs.

  • It is unlikely but there has been small buzz with his name and the Akron job. Couple fans liked the idea on their message board. Which I think is because half their fan base still wishes Bowden was their HC so it would kind of go back to that style HC.

  • We're playing for a conference championship the last weekend of the season. Why is every other thread about Doc Holliday or who he did or didn't recruit?

Because it's a discussion board where people write what they are thinking about.  There are plenty of speculation threads about the championship game and issues surrounding that.  Hasn't even been a year that Doc has been gone so there's going to be a good bit of compare and contrast in the new coach's first year.  It will fade as we find out more about what we have now as opposed to what we had the last 11 year.  That's a long time to just drop the conversation on the man.  He was coach here more than 20% of my life and I'm 52.  Even a bigger percent for those younger than me.  And for high school and college kids, they never new a different coach, here, since they were old enough to follow football and their other choice was Snyder if they started early.  All they have are stories about how it used to be before Doc and Snyder.  Talking about them is very relevant to connect them to the future and the past.

I'll bet that former Ohio U. Head Coach Frank Solich would "gladly and warmly" endorse Doc for the Akron job!  Probably his successor at Ohio U. would too!!  ;)
