  • Oh I agree, it isn?t made up but it?s turned into constant negativity whether he makes mistake or not.  I?m sure he will deserve criticism again, but he didn?t deserve much last night.

  • He played pretty darn good last nite. The end of the first half foul was a head scratcher but overall he did pretty good.  I think when Beyers screws up , its so obvious , like hes not out of control , hes crazy out of control.

  • Disagree. In the world of transfer portal the days of redshirting most of the class are now over with. They will get a chance to play more against Bluefield. Who knows, they might come on strong by the end of the year.

Only if a Coach is going to use the transfer portal, 129.  Yes, if a Coach, say a Huggins just for example, is going to use the portal yearly, in every recruiting class, agree, why redshirt much.  But Danny hasn't shown much of an inclination, if at all, to go after players in the portal.  Or after junior college players, for that matter.  So he should be using the redshirt to develop young talent, high school recruits, giving some of them an extra year to mature, develop, learn the system, etc., IMO.

He will never force a kid to redshirt. He will tell them the advantages and they make the decision. There is still a chance that Wyatt will get take a medical redshirt. Obviously there are no others that qualify now to redshirt barring an injury.

As for the portal. He looked at it last summer and offered a couple of players, None chose us. Believe me he is very specific in what he is looking for in all recruiting. Portal, JOCO and HS.
As for next year there are no openings barring someone leaving unexpectedly. He is very happy with the 2 we signed earlier this month. That fills out the roster for next year.

Herdmeister. The two signed for next year are replacements for Beyers and George, correct? Kinsey has another year due to Covid if he wants it, but much speculation to date has him leaving for the NBA or other pro leagues after this season. It is early in the season but is he still leaning in that direction? If so that would free one additional scholarship for next season. It would be great however, if he returned for another season.

  • In the second half, I thought we played really well. Obinna is going to be something else by conference time this season. He is gaining so much confidence. The big thing I noticed is that he didn't foul every time someone drove to the paint. That was my biggest concern for him this season. I was also glad to see Early get more playing time. I don't know if he should start, but he has given us quality minutes the last two games. I do think Goran needs to start on the bench and be used sparingly to give Obinna a rest. Toussant will be a good one once he learns what Obinna did and not foul when someone drives to the bucket. I am looking forward to see how well we play against Indiana.

  • For next year Marshall has 2 available scholarships but need three players to leave to free them up. Beyers and George are finished for certain and it is assumed Taevion is leaving as well. Due to the Covid exception Marshall currently has 14 players on scholarship rather than the normal 13. Next year they have to return to the normal allotted total of 13. If Taevion made the decision to return, a scholarship would have to be pulled from a player on the current roster.

  • Redshirting is a dumb idea in today?s game. You just waste an extra scholarship year on a lesser player.  It has not benefited this program much at all.

I agree... Basketball is not football. We should be recruiting guys ready to play right away!! How many other comparable schools really use redshirts? I can't think of many. If guys aren't ready, send them to the jucos to get ready don't waste a scholarship.

You are correct.  Hanson and program benefited as he had solid 4 years.  He is using Covid year at Eku.

George didn?t RS but his Covid year looks to be like a break out 5th year like a redshirt.

But I agree not much need to red shirt now with transfer rules etc

Doesn't matter if DD uses the portal or not lol....if our guys enter the portal then the point I was making still stands. No reason to redshirt guys in this era of college sports as they are likely to leave us anyway.

Another miss by DD....if only he was from some random European country then he would have been offered.

Jude would be an immediate impact player for us and fits our style great.

I live in Huntington now, but I graduated from Tolsia and go to a lot of their games. I told DD and Klein about him as a sophomore. They took Jeremy Dillon instead.

He would be the best 3 point shooter on our team....so yeah. I would consider a guy 6'9'' and consistently shooting 39% from three over his career going in to this season to be an immediate impact.

    175/446= 39%

PLEASE...show me someone on our team who his a better 3 point shooter. Don't worry, I'll wait.

Why are you so miserable? There are more local/tri-state players on the roster than Europeans.  Both of those kids played prep school ball in the states and are both turning into contributors.  And DD hasn?t brought in another European since.  But just keep saying stupid stuff by all means.

I like Marko and Goran. They weren't in the same class. At the time we passed on Jude we had people like Mijovich, Nikolic, etc on the roster.

Once again, Jude would be the best 3 point shooter on our team.

  • Recruiting is hit and miss, especially at the mid-major level.  That?s why they are given 13 spots but it?s still 13?can?t take everyone.  There have been some misses obviously but those 2 examples were early in DD?s career here. Penava turned out pretty good and so have the current 2.  It?s easy to point out the misses all of the time, but his classes seem to be getting stronger every year with or without the ?Europeans?.  The same ol comments get tired?I put this one up there with ?live by the 3, die by the 3? even when that?s not the case at all this year or last year when they played their best.  Take a look at some box scores from around the country?it?s about every team takes a bunch of 3?s every game.

I agree...his last three classes have been great. I can only imagine where we would be right now if he had recruited like that from the start. He's definitely learned the recruiting side of things lately, which is great.

The only thing he needs to find now is some pure shooters. Another Austin Loop type of player, and they are out there.

Jude would definitely get minutes for us. But, Idk how big of an impact he would be making. Looking at his current stat line at UNCA he's playing less than 18 minutes per game for the Bulldogs and averaging less than 6 points and 2 rebounds a game while shooting a pretty poor 24% from the floor and 23% from three. We are better than UNCA, so I'm not sure he'd get a ton of minutes right now for us.

But, I also haven't gotten the chance to watch him yet this year. I wonder if he's dealing with some kind of nagging injury because those numbers are steep departures from his previous 3 seasons where he shot over 40% from the floor and better than 37% from three in each of those first 3 years while averaging right at 10 ppg.

Another local guy that we passed on and I know there are a lot of reasons why we did, Huntington's Tavian Dunn-Martin is off to a BLISTERING start to the year for Florida Gulf Coast. He's averaging 20.3 ppg and 3.3 assists pg while shooting 46% from the floor and a ridiculous 45% from 3.

  • I didn't use his stats from this year alone as it's too early in the season to judge based on that.

He's 6'9'' and shoots 39% from three point range over the course of three seasons. Tell me one guy on our current roster who shoots the 3 as well as him?

I would consider that an impact player for sure.
