This has to be one of the funniest threads I?ve seen in awhile.

I am not a Wells ?hater? and I want the qb that?s going to put Marshall in the best position to win.

Now back to the thread and the topic.
    1. Wells is the starting QB at Marshall. He gets all of the meaningful playing time. He gets the majority of the practice reps. To compare the two based off this alone is laughable.
    2. It?s on the coaches to not be better prepared for an injury at any position let alone the QB position.
    3. Cramsey. Yes, I am a cramsey hater. It?s on him to not or fail to adjust to having your backup QB in the game. When the backup enters for the rest of the game it?s time to rally your oline and RBs to be prepared to shoulder the load. As the coordinator knowing your backup has had limited reps you have to work him into the game. Cramsey failed yet again tonight.
If you think zban should just jump right in, execute flawlessly and win the game- enjoy your fantasy world.
    That is all. Carry on.

  • Cramsey can?t give Zban composure. If a QB doesn?t have composure the play calling is meaningless because you only have two options, run and pass to the flat,?and neither will be successful with 10?defenders within 5 yards of the LOS.

  • Our team have given up and it shows

I came here to say something similar, the body language in the 2nd half was not what I hope to see from a team facing adversity, and it just snowballed.

Zban has been in the program going for 4 seasons now and he still has the deer in the headlights.

The coaches did not do him any favors of the play calling though (how do you not give it to Ali on a 4th and 1?.).

Coach Huff now needs to go out and get playmakers for Wells at WR and TE, and hope one of these three freshman QBs can be a suitable if this occurs again.

  • The team had NO confidence in Zban. The poor kid wouldn?t even start for HHS these days. Cramsey didn?t help him. But the body language of the whole team changed when Wells went down. Grant stays healthy, we win.

Zappe goes down, WKU is average at best

  • The offensive line didn't help either once Wells went down. Run blocking was not good. Pass protection was not as good. Zban held the ball too long at times. But, they did not open holes for Ali to run thru like they did before Wells went down.

According to what I?ve been reading on this board the past few weeks there are dozens here that want Zban over Wells and Huff is a fool for not making the switch.

Bagaent would start for us. Anyone who thinks otherwise can watch the last two plays of their game today. The game winning TD pass is all you need to watch.

He has a good chance of winning the D2 Heisman and is close to breaking NCAA D2 single season record for most TD passes in a season.

This is a good point. At the same time though there have been QBs who have done just that. Not unheard of.

  • I think people are misrepresenting the criticisms of Wells. I have not seen many call for Zban to start. The issue is we don?t have anyone on the roster better than Wells. That was obvious last night. It was a mistake to bring Cramsey back and it was a mistake not to bring in a transfer this year.

Not a Cramsey hater but do question the gameplan after Wells went out. I would have done what I said I would do all week...use 3 TE's, outnumber them in box and run ball, and then use PA pass. When WKY saw they were giving Zban basically a one read, they loaded up box. Our counter to that was "deer in the headlights" vs using the same formation we've been using in redzone with multiple TE's and play some mano on mano football.

  • You can?t say - well we can?t expect Zban to come in and play well. Because we all know if he had come in and lit it up, many would be saying - see I told you so, he is better than Wells. Cant have it both ways boys. That?s why Wells is the starter and we saw why it?s not even close.

  • One thing is for certain.  We avoided having our hearts broken by an interception in a nail-biter for the division championship.  That outcome was taken off the table for us.  Beyond that we don't know what would have happened but it looked like we were doing very well against their game plan.

  • You can be a Wells hater and also realize he's the best we have. I came to this conclusion after several games. I'd prefer we'd go with a one year transfer and then hand it over to a sophomore.

This.   Cramsey is the only guy who was here the previous year AND he is in charge of QBs.  No reason he didn't grab Huff and tell him we were in trouble if Wells goes down and they get someone from the portal with any real time game experience.  Grab a guy for one year who was just looking for a change of scenery for his senior year.   Something.  With 2000 kids in the portal, you can't tell me not a single one wasn't a serviceable QB.   Hell, USM has been winning games using their RBs as the QBs.  They've used 11 different QBs the last few weeks and started winning.  We still have Gaines who has thrown passes in a game atmosphere and we know can run with the ball.  We had options.  We lacked the creativity to think of them in a time of need.

  • I don't understand the dislike for Wells.  He completes 65-70% of passes and his decision making has gotten a lot better over the year. If he went into portal there would be at least 20 P5 schools interested IMO. His WR have not helped him much most games either.  How many drops? How many bad routes?  As an example, on third series vs WKY he threw a long ball down sideline to Gamage. Once I saw replay I was angry because Gamage chose to "break basket" a perfect throw vs either getting his hands up or jumping and catching it at a high point. This allowed the DB to get his hand in there. Next play, dropped pass. On third down, Wells made a bad throw and then we punted but it should never have come to that. Zban also had a series when it was still a game and we dropped two straight passes. None on those were on the QBs or OC. WR is literally the easiest position to recruit, but when your best WRs fail to make relatively easy catches maybe it's time to look at coaching IMO.
