  • Another year, another "what if" season. Herd fans let down yet again, with 1 legitimate football team thats not even very good in our division, and we still can't win it.

    1. We absolutely were not prepared and had no plan for if Wells gets hurt. We didn't even try to stick with a ground and pound which was working very well.

    2. Coaches mistakes piled up man. That onside kick? This is our second issue with onside kicks this year. Clearly huff needs some help in that arena. What a stupid call when our offense finally got some juice back into the stadium.

The problem is, I am finding it less and less of a sting every season. I'm upset less and less after every let down. The stadium is 3/4 empty so I'm not the only one.

This program is on it's way to a dark place, with apathy creeping in to the most hardcore of fans at this point.

Hopefully the new conference energizes some folks. Need some major improvement next season. This program needs to win, and it needs to win at a high level if we are going to even see 25k at games again. I never thought we'd be below those 23-25 steady, hardcore fans, but here we are in the 15-17 territory.

I don't know if Huff is the guy, but he has next year to turn it around. I would rate his first season as a failure.

  • After the two mistakes in clock management against ECU and ASU, I thought coach Huff had figured some things out. I would call this an average season.

I also thought it was a little early for an onsides kick. Had just told my wife we needed a three and out and then that happens.

  • What we know is the message board coaches calling for Zban to play should retire and not try to be coaches.

  • I?m not gonna say Huff is perfect, but he?s not the one dropping passes, being forced to play local QBs who aren?t D1 talent, and kicking an onside kick to the exact wrong place.

There are plenty of bonehead coaching decisions, but if the talent level and execution were halfway decent then we would be doing quite a bit better.

  • I always though that this was a roster evaluation year.  I think that you will see a lot of changes going forward.  With 37 plus recruits coming in there will be a lot of turnover.  I also expect to see a couple of coaches not retained or moving on.  Many of you think Rome was built in a day.  Give the staff the same patience that you've been giving the BB coaches.  It will take at least two recruiting classes to right this ship.

I tend to always reply in QB threads defending Grant when people start complaining about him. They act like every QB is better and start talking about Zban. I?m sure he?s a good kid, but he has no business being even a 2 on any FBS roster. How anyone could legitimately think he is 50% the QB Wells is is laughable.

I always try to be respectful in those posts, but it?s annoying. How sure am I?  Well, I left when it became apparent the defense gave up knowing the writing was on the wall when WKU went up 20-14. It was over at that point with Zban.

  • I'm not going to blame Huff or the coaching staff for tonight. Our guys were prepared and dominating the game until Wells got hurt. The only coach that I will blame is the same one I've been wanting replaced for a while now....Cramsey. He has no feel for the game or how to adjust to situations.

Zban got more reps this year throughout the season than any backup QB I can remember so we can't pretend Huff didn't development him or plan for this. It is what it is guys. Cramsey could have put him in better opportunities to succeed but he didnt.

Concur. Huff talked a lot, not only in getting the job, but wooing the fan base. But in the end, no results.

  • I think if Zappe had been knocked out of the instead of Wells, the result would have been a big Herd win. It happens.

And you would have been horrifically wrong if Wells wasnt injured.  It was t just losing Wells, it was the mental impact on the defense of knowing they were all alone. They start trying to play hero ball and blowing assignments. Plus we had back to back possessions of 33 and 37 seconds. Defense didn?t have time to take off their helmets.

  • Zban is terrible.  I'll say it.  On the 4th and 1 play he held onto the ball too long before pulling it out and going nowhere.  He take WAY to long to decide to allow the handoff or pull it and run.  He gets sacked because he locks onto ONE receiver and waits and waits until that receiver gets open.  When he doesn't get open then he gets sacked.  His father was just as bad of a QB.

  • I know the same as I did months ago. We have a first year greenhorn head coach with mediocre CUSA level talent.

I expect Huff will be much more capable with a years experience and the talent level to rise.
We need both to happen for any chance of success.
