  • Game we could have won. What a disappointment Saturday turned out to be. But Proud of the way the basketball team played. Had a stretch of home cookin that got Indiana out by 12-14 and we just couldn't get out of that hole.

    1. Kinsey - was borderline too selfish tonight. We seemed to completely go away from team ball that beat Indiana in the first half. Also too many turnovers for Kinsey, can't have 4 giveaways.

    2. Taylor - came on late and maybe, just maybe, found his shot and confidence again. May bode well going forward. Too many turnovers from him as well.

    3. George - was a ghost tonight. I'll never understand that inconsistent play, but we needed George tonight and he just didn't show up.

    4. Obinna - struggled on D a little but solid game again. Still think this kid is our best player. However, he isn't a 3 point shooter, we need to not work to get him the shot #1, and he needs to learn to make another pass.

    5. Beyers - again, i wish he never saw the floor. We will vastly improve when he is gone. He constantly takes bad shots, or makes bad decisions, that hurt us, and the positives only outweigh the negatives in maybe 2-3 games all year. He should be a reserve that we use during foul trouble etc.

    6. Goran - i wish he could become faster. But there is no reason he should start over Obinna.

We gave Indiana a good game on the road. We didn't play our best ba outside of about 10 minutes in the first half. During that time of playing our best, we buried Indiana at home by 12. Think about that. Then stupid mistakes, bad decisions and lack of making shots killed us. We got away from team ball and it became 1 on 5 in the 2nd half. We have to be the team that made the extra, good pass into the paint like we did in the first half.

Akron will tell us a lot more about this team, another tough game on the road.

I'm not sure what you expect, we showed up tonight on the road against Indiana. Few stupid turnovers or made shots missed by Indiana, and it's a different ending. This was a positive overall effort by our team, and as the year goes on they'll get better and better. As of now, It will come down to us and WKU to win cusa in my eyes.

I swear the next time he trys to dribble, Kinsey, Taylor, and OAK should toss him to the floor and stomp on his hands.

  • Agree goherd24. Proud of the way we played. Thought DD waited too long for a time out when Indiana got on that early run. Waited until we were down by 10 before he called one. While the refs were not consistent in the second half, they still didn't cost us the game. As you mentioned, too much hero ball by Kinsey in the second half. And, if he is going to draw fouls when we are down, he needs to make the FT, and I mean all of them. Twice, he made one of two. I have touted Darius George all season. Tonight, he really let me down. He did nothing. Killen was good on offense but could not handle the interior D. Of course, our guards did nothing to stop the entry passes. Akron will be a good test.

I wonder how you see the world sometimes. Beyers basically had 5 turnovers which resulted in 8 indiana points tonight with bad, awful shots with our team in transition. Goran had 4 points, few rebounds, steal and 1 missed shot, being a wide open 3 which I'm ok with. Beyers is a net negative, nearly every night.

Not so sure, 24, if WKU will be a "main" challenger.  UAB looks a lot stronger as of now.  Probably playing the best of all league times currently.  It'll be an interesting race for sure.  Herd needs to put this one behind them; get well up at Akron on Dec.1st.  Oh, as for future foes, did everyone hear that future home foe, Northern Iowa, knocked off ranked St. Bonnie tonight?  We'll need a nice, loud crowd when that bunch rolls into the CAM later next month!

Goran couldn't guard my grandma. He's completely terrible. He can barely even dunk it. Get serious.

  • When looking at this schedule, I focused too much on Milligan and Bluefield State. Looking at the others, this is not a bad OOC schedule. Sometimes, a money game is not the best thing. I believe we played two in one year and got hammered both times. As a mid-major, we will never get above a 12 seed. That's a fact I've learned to accept. We just need to win out in the OOC and be ready for conference play.

  • Battled hard. We need to keep going to the rim and not settle for jumpers. Run pick and roll or have Kinsey slash to the basket. The 3's aren't falling.

Cant speak for 129 but Beyers does a lot that shows on tape to casual fans. Specific related to the system and what Dan wants can and probably does look different.

That's a flat out, gutless LIE, 24 and you know it, even if you aren't MAN enough to admit it.

Wouldn't have complained if HERD won tonight.  You and Green White have been waiting for Danny to get such a win over a Major/name opponent in regular season play haven't you?  And you are STILL WAITING!!

  • I have been critical of DD for some time. I'm also objective. Name a basketball coach in the last 30+ years that has beaten what is now called a power team (excluding WVU). I expected us to lose bad tonight. Again, no such thing as a moral victory, but I was able to watch this game and not get as upset as I have in the past. I was furious after the Campbell loss. Go down and look who started the hot seat thread for DD. I just try not to be such a Debbie Downer like you every time this team loses. I lost my cool after the Campbell game. I am hoping I can gather my thoughts before I post after the next loss.

  • I WANT to win these games but I don?t expect to.  That?s why they are called upsets when they happen.  We played well?really well at times, but I think if you compared the money and resources of IU basketball to Marshall bball, you would expect more than a 11 point loss on the road.  It was a fun game to watch as a fan.  We competed well.  We are going to have a really good season if they keep making progress.

All right, thunderingon, let's see what's going on elsewhere in basketball in D1.  Let's talk about "upsets".  Obviously, you don't know that they are more commonplace than you think.  Happen quite often, even tonight.

So, let's see.  Tonight, Monmouth beat Cincy, 61-59; N. Iowa beat #16 St. Bonnie, 90-80; UMBC beat the ACC's Pitt, 87-79; and Winthrop beat the PAC-12's Washington, 82-74.   Oh, by the way, all four of the winning teams were playing ON THE ROAD!!  Just like MU at Indiana.

But all we get, as HERD fans is:  they won't play in Huntington, or our Athletic Director won't let us play in neutral site tournaments, or, excuse. . .excuse . . ., excuse!  Underdogs, even "mid major" underdogs, go on the road and win, sometimes even against major foes.  Other times against other, supposedly better, mid major foes (see Campbell, for example).

You want to tell me that Monmouth has more funds, resources for its basketball program than Cincinnati; or UMBC more than Pitt, Winthrop vs. the PAC 12's Washington?

But I guess MU fans are supposed to relax and enjoy it.  Losing is such "FUN".  At least to some on here!

  • Indiana is a storied program, no doubt. The preseason Big 10 poll has them picked for the 7th spot in their conference. Indiana is not a preseason top 25 program, but did receive enough votes (41) for 27th place. It will be interesting to see where UI ends up at the end of the season.

  • David Early needs to play David Early offense.  Put him on the block against smaller guards.  He will score more.  He?s being underutilized.

  • Here is another coaching mistake

Our low post defenders feet when guarding are too wide therefore they can?t push off laterally quick enough to defend.  Bring in their stances to be able to slide quicker.  The more your feet are outside your center of mass the less push and power in your movements you have.  There you go b-ball Coaches.

  • We know we can?t handle talented big men. We know we have some excellent athletes and they don?t quit. We competed well, took some ill advised shots and need to protect the ball better. For all their good efforts, Goran and Beyers just don?t help us much at all.
