  • I rate Huff a 7.   We had a great win against Navy to start the year and I had said pre-season win that one and we could have a special year.  He showed inexperience in several games but also had the team ready to play on the road against NT, Charlotte and FAU.  He lost half of our home games and that won?t cut it if you want to grow the fan base.

I am a wait and see guy on Huff.  We could have done way worse but also not convinced he is going to be a great coach.

  • The season itself so far would be a 6/10.  Huff himself overall IDK.  Need to see what sort of talent he can get in and what sort of off season changes he makes.  From just  a sideline coaching perspective I wasn?t very impressed.  After gifting ECU a game and the meltdown yesterday I don?t think he?s anything unusually special.  Yesterday provided an opportunity for him to shine but he lost the team as soon as Grant went down. There was no reason why the game shouldn?t have been competitive despite losing Grant.  We quit and that?s all there is to it. The offensive play calling was atrocious to boot.

  • C?had some legit bad luck, ECU was rookie stuff, needs to upgrade talent across the board and take a look at whether or not he really wants his offense to have Cramsey at the helm.  The offense really needs additional playmakers and depth.  Wells and Ali need a little help.

  • I am wait and see also. I would go 7/10 with our roster and his first year. I think he got better as the season went along. He still has a lot to learn but I believe he has the chance to be a really good coach.

  • Although a more open offense the results were no better than we likely would have had with Doc. I think once he gets his recruits in we will be much better. Time will tell. This year he gets a mulligan.

  • I will give him a pass this year. I think we all overrated the talent level of the team. Maybe that is one the reasons Doc couldn't win as many conference championship, he couldn't recruit the players?

Let's see what Huff does with recruiting, That will make him or break him. beau42m has been posting all last week that Huff will be announced as the new coach at VA Tech on Monday afternoon so let's see what happens. ;D

  • He is better than I thought ..... 1-2 more wins than I thought we would have .... glad he passed Ali over Evans at the start.  Had the team ready .... Zappe was 6-17 passing when Wells went out.  We were ready for this game.  Now we know the players believe in Wells too. We need upgraded talent. Been saying it for years. It?s cusa good but how good is that ..... fcs talent is what it means

  • 7.Thought he did a good job of changing the culture until yesterday. Needs his own recruits though I am concerned he signed several recruits with few or no other offers. I like his upbeat approach, felt he grew as a coach this year, definitely an improvement over past years.

They are starting to roll in heavy.  1/2 these cats committed as juniors.  They are another year even better.  This class is going to ignite the program.

  • He?s better than Snyder. Probably equal to Doc as a floor. Good floor to be at first year. First year grade C+

Had we beat two of the following ECU/App/UAB I would have went B. Hard to include MTSU with the rain and yesterday with Wells going out. But those other three were winnable.

  • I would go 7. We need some game-breakers at the wide receiver position. Added depth in the backfield. Need some size on the d-line. Overall decent year.

  • Better than Snyder and Doc. Doc went 5-7 with a bowl team that was coming back. Huff is 7-5 with some head scratchers early and meltdown yesterday. Had Grant not gotten hurt I think we win yesterday. We sit behind the WKU bench and you could see in the first half, they had doubts and weren?t confident. When Wells didn?t come out in the second half, the WKU sideline lit up and they knew the game was there?s for the taking.

I give Huff a 7.5. Incoming class is the best we have ever had if he can hold onto them.

  • 58/100.

He hosed away a sure win.
His team had a chance to walk away with a win at ASU.
The Herd came up small in the last two games.
Only one decent win in the season against Navy...and that isn't all that impressive this past season.

For the "he needs a few years to get 'his' players" crowd:
As soon as Coach Huff accepted the job, the entire roster consists of his players. Those who don't wanna remain can hit hte transfer portal.

This was a lame season in a lame conference that could've ended 9-3, should've ended 8-4 and ended up somewhat lucky to land at 7-5.
    D- or a high F.

  • Overall, I would give him a C+ as I look at it this way:

    1. Did he get the Doc players to buy in? Yes
    2. Did his coaching and players improve as the year went on? for the most part I would say yes
    3. Does his recruiting class appear to be good and addressing key areas of need? yes

    Now the TBD:
    1. Is he going to assess his coaching staff and make the hard decision to replace friends, especially the one who does not understand game situations, has done a poor job in not only developing a backup QB, but the starter.

To me you really have to give a new coach a break on the first year, as they are learning. The good ones take time to (@/:; their first year and what they did wrong, make changes and get better every year. I believe Huff is one of those guys, time will tell.

  • Guess I'm a bit more critical than some, maybe even most. I'd say a C-, totally underwhelmed me as a fan.

However, I also think he was using this year as a "bonus" year, not really that concerned with the outcome ass I'd have wanted.  And he did have several key injuries to deal with, Keaton et al.

I like his verbosity to a point, he feels a bit defensive and dismissive to me at times.

But, honestly, all that is important now is what his talent level that shows up in August 2022 look like.

Yesterday was a humiliating a day as a fan as I've experienced in maybe a decade; to see the coaches punt on the offensive game plan after Wells went down was tough to take.

  • I give him a C. He did some good things. He did some questionable things. It was about what I expected this year. I just don't think we had the talent coming back to do much better. Injuries played an important role. The thing I liked the most was the excitement he showed on the sidelines whenever a good play was made. That excitement level will carry over in time. If a coach is excited for the players, things will get better overall. I do think some guys will be gone that have not used up their eligibility. Quarterback will be one of those positions. Three are coming in. No way we have six qb's on the roster next year.

Their classification does not matter, other schools offer juniors as well, and several of these recruits had few offers from notable programs.

  • I would like to hear what he says in headset and halftime speech for a game and be able to compare it to one Doc game. If he can?t make adjustments at halftime it?s possible we have about the same thing Doc was with maybe a slight improvement in recruiting.

  • I'll give him a C. Not terrible but nothing special either....just average at best.

    Positives:

He did learn from his ECU and App St mistakes in terms of clock management. It's always good to see a young coach learn, grow, and progress throughout the season.

He did move players up and down the depth chart which Doc never did.

Great ambassador for our University and community. Also seems to be doing a great job recruiting so far.

    The unknowns:

Will we hit the portal to land some impact players at key positions? WR, CB, DL, LB, and yes, maybe even a QB? We need some guys who can come in and play immediately.

Will we keep Cramsey again? This to me, will tell me a lot about Huff. Cramsey sucks, no other way to put it. We need a legit OC to come in and take over the offense, and no one currently on the staff is the answer.

No doubt that is not good, but the Joan is not what it used to be....... I don't know if you actually attend games, but this is by far the worse fan attended games in years.... To me yesterday and maybe the ECU game was the only time you actually had fan involvement, but it was no where near what it used to be.

  • I thought the crowd yesterday, to start the game at least, was much better than I expected; one of the best in a while for Thanksgiving weekend.  And they were in the game even longer than the team was, don't think we gave up as fans as quickly as the team did.
