  • Blame this on our inept coaching staff for never developing a qb.  I will give Huff a mulligan this year but not next year.  As far as our assistants go they all should be terminated in my book.  None of them have shown me a thing including the strength coach who saw our lines manhandled all year.  You should never give up 50 plus on your home field to a conference rival.  I am sick and tired of teams laying 50 on us at the Joan. >:(

  • I agree about the development of the backup qb. When Zban got to play, it was pretty much run the ball. Either hand it off or keep it. I am thinking Huff has learned some things as the season went on. Hopefully, he will see that when our backups are in the game, we still need to run our offense and defense as if the starters were in there. As for next year, I am going to wait and see what talent he brings in from the portal. He has a nice nucleus to build around. As for the assistant coaches, I do agree there needs to be serious evaluations. We just can't fire them all and hire a bunch of new ones. The money is just not there.

You should be pissed at the previous staff.  There were no QBs in the pipeline, hence there was no QBs other than Grant to develop. They seem to like Fancher and didn't want to pull his redshirt.  The current staff has been at MU for 10 months and only had spring and fall practice with the team.  Your anger is misplaced.

Didn't we have a whole thread about some thinking it was wrong to pass the ball with backups in a blowout?  This is why you play your game the way you want to play it and let the other team worry about their feelings.

  • Zban has potential give him more reps and he's probably a better qb. Remember coach Pruett and Donnan always made sure we had good backups. Starting with Donnan, I remember his son Todd coming in for an injured Michael Payton and leading us a to win. Under Pruett let's not forget Zban's dad Marc coming in at ETSU and doing well enough that we won that game. What about the national televised game against Miami, when Stan Hill came in for Byron Leftwhich and put on a hell of a show. Even Doc had Blake Frohnapfel who played a lot when Cato once went down and we won. Doc recruited more of RPO type QB's, and the drop off was evident. Coach Huff has a lot to address this offseason and it will show if he can take us to the next level.

This. Tired of this coaching staff getting blamed for not developing the past coaching staff players in a matter of months. Also who says Zban isn't at the height of his god given ability.

There seems to be this thought among some that our players all have NFL potential if you just develop them. Just doesn't work that way. Zban could go live with Peyton Manning for a year and probably still not be starter material.

Receivers hurt Zban pretty bad at times during that game.

I seen our starting receivers drop 3 of Zbans on the money throws that certainly didn't help his confidence.

Our receivers overall are not very good in my opinion. This team needs major upgrades in talent across the board.

  • I just did some research and it appears that Zban wasn't awarded a scholarship until right before the 2020 season. He graduated from HHS in 2018. I guess he was a walkon? Sometimes these kids work out and sometimes they don't. Maybe he would do better at a lower division level? He comes from a great family. I had Bill Zban (his grandfather?) as a teacher, great person.

Again, I don't blame Zban. Maybe the coaching is at fault for not bringing a transfer QB. Maybe the coaching staff tried to find one but didn't succeed like DD in trying to find a player?

R-SOPHOMORE SEASON (2020): Rewarded with a scholarship prior to the 2020 season ? Competed with Grant Wells for the starting job ? Saw action in four games ? Finished the season with six completions on eight attempts for 38 yards and a touchdown without an interception ? Also carried the ball nine times for 76 yards, including a long run of 25 yards ? Made his collegiate debut vs. EKU on Sept. 5, 2020, completing all six of his passes for 38 yards and a touchdown

This is 100% accurate. I am also sick of Coach Huff getting the blame for inheriting a team with ZERO depth less than a year ago.

I posted this in another thread, but it feels like the last few years Doc trying to patch together a first string good enough to win the conference. His last few recruiting classes sucked, and Huff is paying the price. I want to see Huff build a roster from top to bottom and see what it looks like. That is why we hired the man, but he can not do that in less than a year.

After 3-4 years then one can form an educated opinion on Coach. Right now all I can do is go by what his recruiting classes look like. At this point he has a really solid class of FULLY ELIGIBLE kids committed.

If we are sucking at the end of year 4 then fire him, and go find another coach to take a chance on.

AMEN....also our backups got more playing time this season than the last 5 years combined under Doc.

  • 1st year with old HC recruits can be rewarding but you recognize where the holes are and what needs fixed.

And if having starting doubts about assistants cut bait and move on.

  • I love how people will bash the current football coaching staff who is in his 1st year but won?t say %^&* about our men?s basketball coach and how he has only won 56% of his games.

That's the point.  He wasn't allowed to run the offense except one game.  Should have been anytime he was in for cleanup.  Are you really that stupid or do you practice at it?

  • The question is, how do you have a pipeline of QBs? You need a kid like Zban or Chase Cunningham who will stick around. Transfer portal kids expect to start. I don?t see how anyone can develop a QB anymore

  • I think Gammage as a lot of upside, but I have been treated to seeing him drop two potential touchdowns by running before he caught the ball. I am certain Wells is our best option at QB...but he's the ultimate "box of chocolates" QB in that you don't have any idea what you might get. I'm more than glad to give Huff a couple of years to get his people in. The game plan for WKU was great, but we were bringing a knife to a gun fight once Wells went down. I could quibble with a couple of play calls, but the only play that really mattered was the one where Wells got hurt.

  • Yeah, no way this loss is on Zban.  Kid is doing the best he can.  That's all you can ask.  I've said before on here that he's not a Div 1 QB, but he followed his dream walked on at Marshall and then earned 2nd string when Doc couldn't or wouldn't bring in a better QB.

Huff has 3 good QB recruits coming in next year.  Zban will have a tough decision to make.  He might drop so far in the depth chart that he will never see the field again.

He'll have 3 weeks to practice to get ready.  Cramsey should work on a good scheme.

If it's a broken rib as speculated, it's doubtful. It usually takes a month or two to heal.

i think it's been concussion from the start.
