One potential "break" for HERD football is that the highly successful guy at Louisiana (Napier) has taken the Florida HC job.  Ragin Cajuns face Appy in the Sunbelt title game next week end.

I lived in LA during the hey day of USC with Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush and Matt Liniert.  The big difference was there was not an NFL team in LA and they were winning.  Any other time the stadium is not near capacity.  Riley is leaving a state where football matters to one where it doesn?t.

Also, he may be afraid of the SEC and knows he can win in the PAC 12 much easier.

Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma is a clear indication that he believes that Oklahoma cannot win at the highest levels of the SEC. PAC-12 is a much easier gig and it's a matter of when, not if, USC returns to it's former glory. Most of his top recruits from the 2022 class are from LA/California, have to imagine they come with him. SEC is a gauntlet and he wanted no part of that.

Coastal Carolina coach is a one trick pony.  Without McCall, Coastal is  a middle of the road SunBelt team.

Yeah, think he could go somewhere small, like Duke, and win a little 7 or 8 games for a couple seasons until the leagues defensive coaches figure his system out.  But, he is definitely can?t achieve much more at CC.

He has to get out of Coastal before McCall leaves to capitalize on the programs success.  He has probably recruited a few athletes with more talent and size over the last two seasons.  That may sustain the program a bit after McCall leaves but there will be a drop for sure.

Putting Kiffin and Riley in the same category is laughable.

Kiffin came into CUSA with no transfer portal and won the conference with someone else's recruits and gave FAU their ONLY win over us their whole existence.  Then did it again, with a loss to us, with his own people 2 years later.  2 conference championships in the first 3 years at a new gig, with zero fan support, is respectable no matter where it's at.  That puts him in line with any coach out there in terms of how to win games, and that's all that matters. 

Riley's OK teams were always overrated.  Good for Big 12 but that's it.  The fact that he's getting out of there before the SEC says a lot.  Meanwhile Kiffin ran right at the SEC and will soon have a juggernaut going on there.  You're right there is no comparison, you just had it backwards.  And I'm no fan of Kiffin, but he gets results.

Chaos is what we have all the way around.  Players can follow their coach now without sitting out.  ND is in the middle of possibly being in the playoff and we don?t even wait until the seasons are over any more.
