Topic: If Zban is the bowl QB we should do what WVU did in 1969

Bobby Bowden was the OC for Jim Carlen. They played South Carolina. The gamecocks prepared for what they had seen on film. Bowden and Carlen decided in secret to switch to the Veer. Remember the film Lengyel and Dawson watched in Morgantown in WAM? WVU had Jim Braxton ( Buffalo Bills ), Bob Gresham ( New Orleans Saints ) and Pete Wood from Bluefield in the backfield with Mike Sherwood at QB. South Carolina didn't know what to do. WVU won ! We put Payne at FB with Ali and Evans at RBs. We could even use Xavier Gaines as QB. Our oline should be good enough to make it happen. Your thoughts?

Innovative idea.  However, whatever in the world makes you think that Cramsey has any inkling whatsoever on how to put this O together, to implement it and make it work successfully?  Line blocking schemes would have to change somewhat also, don't you think?

If wells is not good to go I would like to see some interesting packages with Xavier Gaines in running the wildcat or something for a few series to keep the pressure off of Zban

The veer? I ran the veer when I was coaching. Easy to learn, easy to run. Zban would flourish in the veer.

Yeah we definitely should run the Veer or the Wing T.  We shouldn?t attempt any forward passes, just student body right and student body left except for the last play of the game. 

The last play of the game, regardless of the score, should be a surprise halfback pass to a very undersized WR, who isn?t on scholarship and has dreamt of catching a pass for Marshall since he was a small boy.  He?ll catch the pass and we?ll carry him off the field chanting his name.

Agree, let Gaines run some wildcat, he can pass the ball as well. Heck, Play Fancher too, might as well get him experience. We can't win the game with Zban being the olny QB we have/use.

I might be inclined to practice Gaines with the 1's until Bowl game. He was a 4 star QB Auburn recruit out of high school. Some have said that reading the D is his weakness and that is why he was moved to TE. At this point, what do we have to lose? I am not downplaying what Zban may be able to do with a couple weeks with the 1's. But we have never seen more than a couple live plays in a row with Gaines. Just maybe he is like Rockhead (they move him from TE to RB after he blocked so well at RB in practice and look what happened). Maybe the light goes on for Gaines in a live game. It would be interesting to find out. I'm just saying let's explore all options going in to the Bowl game.

No official word yet, but from comments on here seems Wells's status is iffy, at best!
