3 years gives plenty of time to tell if improvements are being made.
Matter of fact, I think by third year you better see very obvious improvements.
If a coach is "special" your going to know it well within 3 years, most likely much sooner.

We knew Snyder was way over his head after one season. So its not a one size fits all.

I am amazed at the excuse makers.  We had the talent to win 10 games this season.  We blew the App St and ECU games and had no business losing to MTSU.

Some of you are acting like we played with Cammack Elementary players.  We were an 8 win team the previous 4 years to Huff being our coach.  A good coach should be able to improve or there was no reason to make a change.

Huff will dramatically increase our talent level.  And believe it or not, players ultimately win games.  If we play Alabama and we execute the coach?s plan flawlessly and Alabama has 10 penalties and 2 turnovers, we still lose.  Why?  Because they have much better talent.  By position group, the only talent we have across the board is in the RB room.  Maybe the OL.  Our DL is mid-CUSA level, our LB?s are average, our DB?s are below average, our WR are below average and our QB?s (outside of wells) are dreadful.  All those position groups were recruited by Doc Holliday.  I concede Huff and the coaches probably lost us 2 games this year and that?s on them.  But until Huff loses with his guys and his system, I still believe the change was good.

Huff is going to upgrade our 160lb roster with true freshman.  Very easy to see UAB has better players and most of the rest of CUSA is equal.  Previous HC would have won 3-4 games this year with Sheldon Evans our leading rusher.  Way less Ali.  Wrs less productive (they had career years this year).  The biggest loss was JC Price.  We lost our best players and the depth behind them is not as good.  Once Herd down Herd loses under Holliday.  We might be getting to a point now (been 20 years) where we can come from behind and win.

Normally, in a train wreck program that has been losing which gets a coach fired, 3-4 years.

In a program that 7-8 wins wasn't good enough, that coach gets 2

We averaged 8 wins a season the last 4 years.  No way should it take 4 years to win 10 games if we made a change to get better.  If you are taking over a 1 win team the rules are different.

Huff needs to win 9 or 10 games next season to show improvement.

Doc averaged 7 wins a year in his tenure. What were your thoughts in year three when he went 5-7? Did you want to fire him? It took Doc 4 years to win 10 games.

Doc didn?t take over a team that had won on average 8 games the prior 4 years.  Why make the change if we are going to win the same amount of games?

Because,Fan Apathy set in!!! Are you some kin to Doc, or a personal friend? I'm curious because you defend him a lot. Doc had his chances and then some. You're suppose to win when you're playing teams in FBS rated, 132, 135, etc.. Doc struggled with teams he was suppose to beat like, Charlotte, FIU, Rice.. ( 1 Championship in lonely CUSA in 11 seasons)... You have no defense against the indefensible!

Not a fan of Doc and it was time for a change.  But to say anything has changed would be kidding yourself.  We didn?t beat a team with a winning record this year and won 7 games.

I think it?s fair to let him sign this recruiting class and coach them for 2 years and even then as long we are competing keep going.

Two recruiting classes. That would give him three years as head coach. Should see improvement by then.

5 years was one too long for Snyder, imo.  Even redshirts will be juniors in 4 years.  That's long enough.  And with the portal, any shortcomings can be addressed instantly. so there's no excuse for faulty personnel.  If we aren't getting a division title and in the championship game, at least, every 3-4 years then it's time to move on.   We should have been in the hunt again in 2017-2018 and we weren't.  And we only got there in 2020 by using COVID protocol to manipulate the standings.

Doc should have been gone after 2016 and certainly 2017 when the next cycle matured with same results.
