  • He appears to be ruling out Marshall. The reporter noted that: "He indicated he would not be interested in going to a ?mid-major program,? and emphasized that his preference is to remain at Shepherd."

Division II?s best football player has put his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

That doesn?t mean Shepherd?s Tyson Bagent is going anywhere for his final season of eligibility, however.

It?s more of a fact-finding mission for the quarterback.

?I?m not going anywhere,? Bagent told The Journal. ?Me, my grandfather and father wanted to see if there?s anything out there.

    ?I love Shepherd too much.?

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Bagent said it would take a big-time offer to pry him away from Shepherd, where he threw for 5,000 yards and 53 touchdowns this past season in leading the Rams to the national semifinals and won the school?s first Harlon Hill Trophy as the top player in Division II.

Bagent said it would take a school like Alabama, which is playing in Monday?s national championship game, or LSU to wrestle him away from Shepherd.

?I?m staying at Shepherd unless (Alabama) coach (Lou) Saban comes chipping away,? Bagent said.

He said he?ll leave his name in the portal for about two weeks to see what might develop.

He indicated he would not be interested in going to a ?mid-major program,? and emphasized that his preference is to remain at Shepherd.

What if Saban calls on Huff?s behalf? Make it happen 😂

  • sounds like it's time to put this dream to bed

appears as if he really is only open to P5 offers

i do think we give him a better situation than wvu does, however.  i don't get too caught up in recruiting, but i believe wvu claims to have just signed a QB that was their highest rated recruit ever, i believe? (of course, they used to say that about Ford Childress, & he was a total bust.)  so, he's gonna have some competition up there.  whereas, if he's even close to being as good as his numbers say he is, it'd really be an upset if someone beat him out for the job here.

but, like i said, it doesn't appear as if he'd even return our call from this latest read, so need to move on . . .

  • Crazy how every Div II school he played at in the video took better care of their football facility than we do. All had a nicer playing surface, but then so does HHS and Cabell Midland.

Marshall University has always been great about building facilities, but lousy at Maintenance. Of course, when your Director of operations and facilities spends more time playing Barney Fife what do you expect.

  • Surely a group of herdfans could come together and get $50k or something together.  I would be willing to throw in to get a good qb.

zappe came from a Div I school, but to your point . . . there is NO way a P5 power is gonna just hand bagent the keys to their offense.  the whole point of transferring is to play, not to get your picture taken in P5 uniform.  bagent needs to go somewhere where 1) he can play, 2) he can succeed (indiv & team), & 3) he can get some exposure.  now that we're back to being in an ESPN conference, we certainly offer all 3.  but he's gotta get his head outta the clouds & back into reality for that to happen.

I don?t think it?s delusional. I think it?s loyalty and him currently being in a good spot. We had our chance to offer him coming out and we didn?t. Shepherd gave him a shot, he?s from the area, and gets to be near his family etc.

He is already getting the NFL looks and he will def get a shot in an NFL camp. So honestly not sure what we can actually offer the kid. He?s just saying he wants to see if an offer from a major school comes. If not then he will stay where he is at. I actually admire that.

  • I just saw the kids attitude, thinking he needs alabama or he is staying at shepherd, to hell with him. Don't need that holier than thou attitude on our team.

  • It will be interesting to see what schools, if any, go after him. He is stating that Bama or LSU are about the only places he would consider, will limit his opportunities. Either he is very confident or delusional. It will be interesting to see what happens or if he stays at Shephard; and if he makes  in the NFL.

     I wish him luck.

Would be cool if he found out that average Joe fans put up money to get him here, though.  Not super boosters, but 1000 everyday fans put in $50 to see him in green and white.

Someone else can set up the Gofundme this time around.

Interesting you call that loyalty.  If he was loyal he wouldn?t be in portal.  Bottom line he?s looking for what he perceives to be a better school for them just like everyone else who enters the portal

I kinda took it as loyalty too.. Like he's not seriously throwing his name out there. Just entering the portal on the very slim chance that a dream school offers him. But, that he's not willing to leave Shepard, the school that gave him his chance when no one else wanted him unless it's for a dream school that any college football player would kill to play at.

If you're not one of those dream schools, then he's willing to just stay at Shepard and honor the program that gave him his chance. I see it as loyalty in a way too. That it would take something truly special to make him leave where he's at, but he's gonna put himself in the portal on the chance one of those truly special offers comes and if not he's happy where he is. That's just how it read to me.

Only time will tell if they are empty or not. If he leaves for anything less than a P5 Blueblood then you're right.

  • I wouldn't call it loyalty either. If he was loyal we wouldn't even be discussing this. This is all about seeing if a SEC, top P-5, or WVU will offer him and give him a legit chance to start. He gets it, see ya later...... If he doesn't, I always loved Shepherd never thought of leaving.

Not an ounce of loyalty in him, or he wouldn't be in the portal to start with. He just values himself too much, too good for anybody but bama or lsu or shepherd lol
