  • Danny's post game comments.  David Early never played point guard in his life.  He's got to learn that.  We've got 2 and a half, maybe 3 guys who can put in on the floor and take it to the basket.  Taevion, Andy and David Early.  Early on being 1-9 from 3, Danny says that is too many (treys) for him.

So, if we need to be able to hit enough threes effectively to draw out defenders to clear enough space to allow the only three players Coach says we have who can take it on the floor and drive to the hole and finish, who are we going to have to shoot those 3 pointers effectively?  Apparently, he is counting on MIlandinovich, OAK, Byers, primarily.  How is that working out?  Teams will keep their big men back near the basket until our "bigs" hit enough three pointers often enough to hurt them.

Essentially, in a roundabout, rambling way Danny is saying what we all are noticing:  NOT ENOUGH QUALITY OVERALL TALENT on this HERD Squad to effectively play the kind of ball that Coach D espouses!  NOT enough talent to win ehough, certainly, as we near the 2/3 point of the season!!!

  • Remember in the off-season when we had 4-5 scholarships available and DD chose to go get a bunch of Freshmen instead of a single person from JUCO/Portal?

This is all on DD. Period.

  • It was pretty much get the ball to Kinsey in the second half. Too many combinations to get any rhythm.

    Taylor
    Kinsey
    Early
    George
    Obinna

It?s a smaller but quicker lineup. Rice was much quicker than we were. Gonna be tough to get double digit wins for this crew.

  • Glad I stayed in Indy and watched the Bengals.  I watched the replay of the second half.  I love Danny, but I don?t think he sees what needs to be done.

  • Watching the press conference Dan realizes the flaws of this team.  We are missing what other teams have.  1. Guys that can make shots and 2. Guys that dribble and create their own shots.

He has constructed a poor roster and should have taken advantage of the portal and if he is our coach next year we need to see at least 3 guys from the portal.

I agree. But we know he refuses to pull scholarships, & we only lose 2 players this yr.

D'Antoni is adamant about pulling scholarships unless there are serious problems by a player(s). The Alison kid from Portsmouth comes to mind. He did mention that Early shot too many threes last night. Wants him to penetrate more and dish to the open guy. But, as he also mentioned, our outside shooting has been so bad that people aren't jumping out to cover the three. They are dropping down to help underneath. Taylor and Beyers have to become a factor from outside. Man, do we miss a guy like Austin Loop.

I really thought Marko could be our loop this year but when the lights go on he just can't make them. I think most of the players are too timid.

Anyone notice Beyers shaking his head, questioning why he got pulled in 2nd half? He apparently didn't notice the two baskets in a row he gave up underneath by being out of position on defense.

This falls on DD as a coach and who he recruited. I could never understand the love affair with the European players. What's surprising is with Dans connection through brother Mike in the NBA, he should have had no problem getting better recruits here. Our players are slower and can't dribble, we are fundamentally one of the worse teams I've seen.

Exactly 785.  Believe Danny could overlook, to an extent, Byers being totally out of position on D, or giving up easy 2 pointers by being slow to defend, IF he counteracts those flaws by hitting more often 3 pointers on the offensive end.  Trade 3s for 2s for a spell.  But when Byers air balls or clanks 3 or 4 straight 3 point tries and at the same time becomes an "invisible man" on D for 3 or 4 straight possessions, then there is no choice but to take him out!

Exactly my thoughts on his play. If he isn't producing on offense then he is costing you too much on defense.

IMO, Danny fell too much in love with recruiting tall, skinny guys who can jump out of the gym.  Our best players since Danny has been coach have been guards who can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket and shoot the 3.  Throw in some bad recruiting and that has created a gap between the freshman class Danny brought in this year and the returning players.  I'm not going to name names, because the players can't help they were recruited here, but there are at least 4 players that need to be purged from the roster after this season.  The two players Danny is bringing in next season will not fix the roster issues he has now.  He is going to have to create space on the roster and hit the portal to bring in at least two guards who can get to the basket and can adequately shoot the three.  Ideally he would bring in two guards, a wing who can shoot and a big man who can defend the post.  Do that and it would pretty much right the ship.

Keep in mind he has no open spots for next year. Connor will come in and play the PG position. Handlogten
will need some time to develop. He seems to be in good shape with another guard from the Charleston SC area for the class of 23

I hadn't noticed that. As for purging, as we know that Danny has been loyal to a fault. He has never run anyone off. He was about to do that after last year but couldn't pull the trigger. As it turned out, he didn't have to

  • Danny does not have a choice but to turnover this roster.  This team is bad and Danny will not continue to get another season.  Next year cannot be a development year after this year.

He better get 3 portal guys that can make a difference.  If he does not do that next year will be his last year for sure if he can convince the administration to keep him after this poor season and also with no direction heading into next year.

If DD is back, he has to hit the recruiting trail hard and bring in 3 impact players imo. JUCO/GT: PG, SG and a 4/5 man

Handlogten will be an improvement over Goran. From the game highlights I?ve seen, he?s more athletic and quicker. He also dunks a lot.
