  • I guess Jarret Doege turned us down, because this guy is like Jarret Doege light. Columbi has WAY LESS experience, worse TD to INT ratio, worse completion percentage...and worst of all makes a heart with his hands.

Someone get this guy some water. He?s thirsty!

He?s not? this is a good pick up imo. You can watch the kid go through progressions and deliver strikes. He also tucks it and runs it when it?s there but keeps his eyes down field to pass first.

We'll see if adequate P5 translates to good G5.  I have to think it's better than starting a freshman, redshirt or otherwise, again for the 4th time in 12 years.

  • He is a copy of wells and slightly better. He has more talent than Wells for sure, but the same inconsistent play, he might come out and torch notre dame and then we lose to Arkansas State with him.

If we beat Notre Dame I don't really care what we do the rest of the season.  I know they'll have a new coach but they were nearly a playoff team this year.

  • This guys is 2-0 against Doege. Lol!

That's irrelevant but you know what would really help your case....if Colombi played a better game than Doege in those games.  You do realize the last time they played, Texas Tech won on a last second field goal AND Doege had better stats in every statistical category right? HAHAHAHAHHAHA

So let's go back to 2020 now...Doege also blew Colombi away... passing for nearly twice the yards in that match up too.

Herd Fans rational just blows my mind at times. Doege who was a Big12 starter and who has a proven track record of doing great in the G5 sucks, but a Big 12 backup who's worse than him, worse stats head to head, WAYYYY less experience, worse overall career stats across across the board, and who throws interceptions like Wells... is a good pick up. Now that, my friend, is what deserves an LOL.

What a dark dark negative world you live in. We've been begging for a transfer qb all winter. We got one. Let's not start craping on the kid already. Jesus.

  • Overall I think its a good pick up.  Decent QB with some experience at a P5.  Not sure what you can expect.  Kudos to the staff.  Lets hope he can get the job done here.

    1. Doege wouldn't have started at Texas Tech.
    2. Second you're wrong about Doege having the higher completion percentage. Columbi has a career completion percentage of 67.1% while Doege has a solid 63.9% completion percentage.

Doege is a much better QB than WVU fans wanted to give him credit for being. He wasn't surrounded by as much talent there as WVU fans want to believe he was. His WRs had trouble getting separation, his offensive line was absolutely terrible (though late in this season it was starting to play better) and Doege had a bad habit of holding the ball way too long, which mixed with his lack of mobility was really a killer in keeping him from rising from serviceable QB to truly good QB. I expect at the CUSA level in WKU's offensive scheme he will put up huge numbers for the Hilltoppers. But, I think ultimately it's his penchant for holding on to the ball and his lack of mobility that didn't make him very appealing to us. Our offensive philosophy needs someone who will 1. get the ball out quick and 2. Be willing and capable of running.

It is for this reason that I think Columbi is more appealing to the Herd than Doege. Columbi is a willing and very capable runner and is not a bad passer from what he's shown in the 10 or so games he's played for the Red Raiders over the past two seasons. He doesn't have Doege's level of experience, but he has much more at a much higher level than any other QB on the roster, he's got some athleticism that Doege doesn't have and athleticism that we haven't had at the QB position since Cato.

I will not be shocked at all to see Doege got to WKU and put up numbers that are much better than what Columbi puts up here at Marshall. In fact, I expect it. But, these two QBs are gonna be asked to do very different things for each team. Doege will be asked to throw it 40 times a game for the Hilltoppers, while Columbi is going to be asked to manage games and use his athleticism to extend plays or pick up first downs when we need it as the offense will flow through Ali.

Two different QBs for two different systems. It's not always about numbers, sometimes it's about fit. I think Columbi fits the Herd better than Doege just as WKU probably fits Doege better. The bottom line is both teams are looking for W's not stats in 2022. Which QB will lead their team to the most W's that's the important question and frankly the only question I care about.

We didn't get Doege, though.  All your arguments go out the window after that fact.  You don't know that we didn't make inquiries.  We might have tried and he flat turned us down.  We got the other guy, so people are making the best of it.  What else should they do? Lament not getting Doege for eternity?  And by the way, the word is rationale.   If you're going to call people stupid you might want to start with getting past a 5th grade vocabulary.

You missed the point. Good catch on the grammatical error.  ::)

    Here's all I was saying:
I don't think Cramsey is great, it's just funny how you all trash the OC every time our QB isn't getting it done. You all have been doing this for 20 years. 2 freak'n decades. You guys will think a guy is a genius one year (with a stud QB) and want him fired the next (when the guy behind him isn't as good). You all loved Cramsey for the first 7 games last year...and then I guess he suddenly forgot how to call plays...Wells didn't have anything to do with it...ugh huh.

I don't think Doege is great, and I'm glad we got a transfer. We desperately needed one. My issue is how fans hate on Doege in one thread/want nothing to do with him and then celebrate a transfer with half the experience and worse stats across the board in another. If you aren't the same fan doing that then my post isn't directed at you.

I like Cramsey Pc his first series ever at Marshall as OC.  That?s it for me.  I do think Doege would have been a good get.  I?m ok with who we signed from TT.  The game should be a little slower, but fast wrs and fast defenses in big 12 - slower wrs and slower defenses in the SBC.  So it all evens out.  Feed the ball to our rb the right way and we win more.  Also move Gammage around.

I agree with you on one thing Champ.  I?m not sure really know if Cramsey was good or not or if Wells and the WRs were that bad.  Was Cramsey limited by Wells?  Was Wells? growth stunted by Cramsey?
Next year should show where the issue was. As they are separated.

On Doege I am guessing he saw our WRs corps from last year and saw the same thing he saw at WV, no separation and dropped passes.
