  • Herd is making its Florida swing for the 21-22 season starting Thursday evening in Miami against the FIU Panthers followed by a 4 pm game Saturday in Boca Raton against FAU.  FIU has been struggling heavily and this may be our best chance to get off the snide in Conference play.  Saturday is another story with the Owls having won fairly handily in Huntington just a few games ago, 90-77.  Note that today FAU wacked a pretty good Charlotte squad down in Boca by nearly 30, 96-67.  Doesn't get any easier as we then return home for games with Middle Tenn. and UAB.  Those two may be as good as we've played at home in League play so far, particularly UAB.

Bottom line, we are 0-4; leave Florida at O-6 in CUSA play would mean the season is on the doorstep of being a "massive disaster".

And 2 weeks from now, if we stand at 0-8, deeply stuck in the CUSA cellar, please let's not have any more delusional posts about Danny and this team being "capable" of making "noise", a "big run", etc., in CUSA tourney play!  Just NOT happening.  0-8 means that not only is the FAT LADY "singing", she's also already on the "THIRD STANZA"!!  And in the immortal words of Rapper and Pitchman, ICE-T, its "GAME OVER"!!

  • If Dan gets this team to 500 he should be in the running for coach of the year but it is of his own doing.

  • If we lose to FIU then we probably dont get another chance at a win until we play them at home on 2/10.  I have zero hope anything will change and we get things quote turned around.

  • Is the tournament even open to all teams this year or is it back to 12?  I know they opened it for COVID in case some teams couldn't compete but no idea if the extended that.

  • I'm driving down to Miami tomorrow and have every intention in seeing two Herd wins.
The practice yesterday was one of the best we've had this year. The players, staff and fans there very upbeat.
Expect to see Early move into the PG spot moving Taylor over to the wing. This will take some pressure off of Andrew and allow him to hopefully get off his shot in rhythm.
As we have seen his shooting has certainly improved the past 2 games making 8 of 11 from the floor. Taevion has also shot over 50% from the floor the past 2 games.
All hope for me at least, the players and staff is NOT gone.
Today, I consider myself, the luckiest man on the face of the earth..

  • Well so much for the Ying and yang reporting duo best referred to as coalmeister.  Between the sunshine and rainbows of meister, and the doom and gloom of coal, my head is spinning and I don't know what to think.

The last two games have been an improvement within the 6-game losing streak.  It does seem this road trip will be pivotable to any possibility of DD turning the season around before the tournament.  As others have asked, I?d like to see some clarification on who will be able to go to Dallas.  Of course, we?ve seen C-USA vacillate and waffle over the years to where they most likely know themselves.

Meister your positivity does my heart good and I would like to apologize to everyone for despairing.  It does not help to be that way and not the sign of a good fan. So I say go herd no matter if we win 7 or 27

I think this is the right move.  It also gets Taevion in a more comfortable position and gets us overall smaller, but more athletic with OAK and George/Beyers and McKey.

I agree Early is just gonna have to run point. Hopefully it helps Taylor open his offense a bit.  I know DD is putting out the lineup that he feels gives the best chance to win but I would like to see more of McKey and Toissant and less Byers and Goran.  If nothing else at least more of a glimpse of next year

  • Agreed.  Play Marko and Goran spot minutes as needed in situations, but roll with the young guys and see what they can do.

As class goes, Marko and Goran are still pretty young guys.  With the covid year, I think they both qualify as sophomores.

  • I think I must be losing my mind because there are still folks out here buying into DD's madness.  Lost 7 in row he's still smiling and talking about being positive and still believing in the team and the system.  That's the noise of a man with no fear of losing his job.  What I want to see from DD is some fire, intensity and brass.  Start making changes, do whatever you can do to light a fire under these guys.  Smiling in the postgame presser after losing 7 in a row is getting hard to watch and listening to the same ole story about how well they shoot with nobody guarding them in practice.  Run somebody off, fire a coach, throw a chair, get a technical, get tossed from a game, attack a fan (I'll volunteer to take one for the team), throw a tantrum, I don't really care how it happens but something's got to give.  right now DD stands on the sidelines in every game with his arms crossed and just watches his system fail over and over yet they continue doing the same crap. I almost walked down the other nigh and offered him some of my popcorn. I'm not sure that dribble handoff is working much maybe we should try something else.  Just maybe, the personal you recruited doesn't fit the system you installed.  Since  at this very moment we can't upgrade the personnel, how about a change of strategy.  How about trying to coach a little differently.  I'm certain it's in him because high school coaches have to change every year and adjust to the talent they have.  Surely, DD hasn't forgotten that aspect of coaching. At least attempt to right the ship this year.  I don't claim to have the answers to solve this dilemma but at least give it the ole college try DD.  If anyone on this board, in the stands, on the bench, or watching from home thinks the current DD system can work with the current roster, you are just living life with blinders on.  I'm trying to "stay positive" so I can be a good fan like DD has asked but going and watching this mess gets harder every game.  I love DD as a person but dang it's tough to watch.  If my tickets weren't already paid for there is no way I'd come watch this silliness.  It's all I can do to make myself go watch now.  Sorry for the rant.  Go Herd

  • I like Boyd?s thoughts.  DD needs to adjust what he is doing.  The roster is not constructed well so adjust to the players he has.  We don?t have shooters so stop throwing up all of the 3s.

Sorry about the "'ying-yang", barryb.  Cut back on the copious amounts of "green Kool aide" and you might clearly see that the season is really in a state of "yuck" and getting "yuckier" with every passing game!

Right now we are a very gaudy 6-5 at home in the CAM!  That's no "ying-Yang", more like "yuck".  Oh yeah, we've managed that sterling home mark more thanks to Danny's judicious scheduling more than great accomplishments by his team.  Take out those great Ws against the likes of Mighty Milligan, Jackson State, who was 2-12 the last time I looked, and NAIA, I believe, Bluefied State!  Oh, I guess between all his yuks and fun with his practice fans, Danny didn't see that toe stubbing LOSS coming to a very so-so Campbell Camels squad!!

So I gues if you drank more of the Green stuff, barryb, you could call our last 2 games an "improvement", with our first 5 losses being in double figures and the sixth one to North Texas was by 4.  However, back to "normal" as Rice walked out of the CAM with a double digit W. to run the streak to 7!

  • Except for the first year of the D'Antoni era, things in the conference seemed to balance itself out for the Herd. In the past, I would not have been too worried if we split these two games. Now, it feels like we have to win them both because of the start this team in conference play. Winless in conference play is not what any of us thought at the beginning of the season. I just don't think a split of these two games can be taken as a win right now. Marshall has dug itself a big hole to climb out of. And that climbing must start Thursday night at FIU. Fail there and it could be catastrophic for the Herd. I am still hoping that we pull out two wins, right this ship, and make that run. It's not going to be easy.

As for the practice reports, I hope whatever the team did in practice that was good will show up on the floor. So far, it hasn't. There is no consistency when it comes to who scores. Maybe Kinsey is starting to get his shooting touch back. He did hit over 50% in the last game. Andy is also shooting better. Obinna has to keep scoring around 15 a game and grab some rebounds. Darius also needs to get that rebounding tenacity back. I also think we need McKey and Toussaint involved in the games. I understand if Toussaint is still feeling the effects of Covid, but I don't understand not playing McKey. I guess we will see what happens on Thursday. GO HERD!!

  • about how the officiating is killing us.

We have been playing some bad basketball. I get that. I don't understand playing players that are clearly not the future, especially now with several conference losses.

But I posted on the benefactors board how the Conference has no vested interest in seeing Marshall do well in anything now that we are leaving. That we have no home court advantage now. That latter sentiment was echoed on this board by hf129 or coal or someone. I give as the latest evidence the 3 or 4 ridiculous head-scratcher calls that went against the Herd. Astute fans will know which ones I am talking about. Did they cost us the game ? NO. But my concern is that they sent a message to Herd fans, players and coaches to expect no favors. Especially against teams that are staying within the Conference.

We can play better, I hope we will play better. I just don't see Early as a PG. I apologize, but I don't think his handles and assist to TO ratio is good enough at all right now.  I think he should get minutes though. He can become a real scoring threat with more confidence and experience and shooting practice. The Sheriff is a very good passer but is not a PG either, mainly because we need his scoring right now. I don't have a solution.

First the insane foul call on OAK that caused him to sit a long period against FAU did hurt badly.

Second, I don't think D1 basketball has "conference" officials like D1 football.  That's why we see many of the guys that do our games on TV doing other conference games many times.

Just my opinion. I try not to take this stuff too seriously .. but I cannot help it.

For example, I turned off the CFP Finals after the official turned his mic on and announced that a play was under review. The stipulation the ref gave was that if UGA QB was ruled *not* to have fumbled then intentional grounding would be the call. WTF ? I have never heard of anything like that.

But UGA won anyway, so much for commies under every bed, etc.
