  • It's still everyone eligible, all 14 teams for the cusa tournament, based on the info on the conference website.

Thanks...I was just thinking no late season run if we aren't eligible for late season.

As to Taylor, all we heard was now that West is out of the way Taylor will be comfortable to open up at the point and lead the team.  Now, he's not a point guard at all and needs to be a 2.  More than one person said he would run the point as well as Jon Elmore.   My question is how are we the only team in the country that has such disparity between what scouting reports and practice reports show compared to on court results.    The answer is they are the best in their high school, by far, so look amazing.  Then they get here and it's 1 or two D1 players vs a bunch of D2 players and they look amazing in practice.  Then they play quality D1 teams and look like a$$.

The moral of the story is don't have any expectations with a DD team till you see them vs at least middle of the pack D1 teams.  And then don't be all "A win is a win."  Use your brain and break down what each player can do better and realize that will be magnified 100 fold vs real good and most conference competition.  Also see that they make the same mistakes multiple games and wonder why it isn't being noticed and corrected.  I hope they turn it all around.  At this point, I'm not betting on it.  And I don't want us to do just well enough to keep repeating the same thing every year.  We've done that to death....At Marshall.

Just like with Doc (that didn't happen) coaches, especially over 5 years tenure, need to be given exact expectations and minimum requirements.  If they don't meet those criteria they need to move on, one way or the other.  If you suddenly dropped your production by half in any other profession, you'd be fired.  We don't need everyone's favorite grandpa here, anymore.  We need a killer.  It would be a monumental task for DD to become that guy this late in the game.  But he's got to start trying.  When someone screws up they should hear about it in the nosebleeds.  Stop coddling these guys.

I laughed at the practice guys when they said Taylor was better than Elmore. I've always been level headed with what we have.

That being said, what we have isn't as bad as we have been playing. We have some good solid players, Taylor is capable of being better, and so is Kinsey. Obinna is a stud, Early is good, and George can be good at times. I think mckey, toussant both have bright futures, Goran is a body when we need him for foul trouble. Other guys, not sure they are worth anything or not.

We'll see what happens down the stretch. All we can do at this point. I'll continue to support them

  • Taylor has been in the program since 18-19. The coaches should have known he isn't a point guard. Hopefully, Early can play well at that position because we need another ball handler.

  • I was led to believe also that Taylor would be able to handle the point. Now, we are going to bank that on a freshman next year. I do think Early can play the point. I thought he looked good bringing the ball up the court against EKU's press. He just needs the minutes to gel with the others on the court.

  • We need to see what the guys can do and the practice people should not anoint any new player anything.  We have not seen any live up to the hype.  Better to over deliver.

  • Early is def the best PG on the team. He's only guy we have who can drive the ball to the basket and finish.

Also, Dillon should be playing more imo. He's been playing good minutes. Not saying he should play 25 minutes, but all those minutes Marko is getting, they should go to Dillon, in addition to the minutes Dillon is already getting.

Maybe I'm not paying close enough attention to Dillon specifically, but he doesn't seem to make mental mistakes often. He might lack in some aspects compared to Marko, but at least he's making some 3s.

I don't understand how, in this losing streak, we haven't given Collins more minutes. Everyone says he can shoot, so let him go stand in the corner and at least try something different.

  • You're absolutely right Hoppy. People say he is our best 3-point shooter. Time to make him like Loop and see what he can do. If Early can start driving to the basket more and making shots, then that corner shot should become available.

  • I think Early is going to be a really good pg. JD does need more minutes, Marko needs to stay seated on the bench and I've been saying this all year about Collins I think he needs some good minutes he is the most consistent 3 point shooter we have had in years. I don't know why DD don't play him.

  • Article in today's paper lays blame on Herd's woes on its "shooting".  Right now, Herd is 341 out of 350 D1 teams in 3-poin shooting percentage; Defensively, we are 278th out of 350 teams in defending against the 3-point shot, allowing around 35% of those shots.  Even worse in our conference games, where foes are hitting nearly 40% (39) of their treys while the Herd is a chilly 24% from distance!  Next foe FIU averages about 30 three pointers a game.

Pretty simple:  If you run an offense that HEAVILY relies on the 3-point shot, you HAVE TO recruit enough good three-point shooters.  Clearly, that is the major coaching failure in terms of the current Herd squad, IMO.

  • Coal, I completely agree with your post except it's not only a failure in recruiting for this years squad.  That is the flaw in every year of the DD era.  He has refused to recruit proven shooters since his arrival (He got lucky and got handed Elmore and loop was already here before he came).  Nothing but projects and the projects have all failed as has his coaching career at Marshall.

  • FIU and Marshall are both 0-4 in conference play. Someone will get their first league win. Let?s hope it?s us.

  • Losing sucks, but that doesn't make me happy or excited.  That doesn't want me to jump on here and pile on and gloat about Marshall losing.  That's the difference between us.  I have no agenda and I don't beat the "fire everyone" drum after every game.  I want Marshall basketball to succeed, thus I want DD to succeed (as he has done in the past).  And yes, the current losing streak sucks. In some sick way, this validates you all that haven't ever supported Dantoni to begin with...you feel validated over Marshall losing.  That's on you.

No "validation".  And certainly no "pleasure".  Just stark coming to terms with reality.  Some just can't/won't accept that the noble experiment is in the processing of crashing and burning!  That's on them, and you.  Others, perhaps grudgingly, realize that it is time to turn the page, and begin a new chapter in Herd basketball.  That is all!!
