  • Ala the national championship soccer team approach.  Mike Dantoni spent 30 years coaching and making connections over there and ELmore is over there now.  Pull them in and pay them NIL. Just a thought anyway.

  • If we take this approach it better be under a different staff because the Euros we have brought in under DD have been absolute trash in basketball.

Could someone who attends practices tell me whether or not there is routine individual attention paid to coaching each player by position? I have personally witnesses at least two centers at NKU with much less raw talent than Goran be coached into players who kick his axx.

  • Just because we have got some players that didn?t turn out doesn?t mean there aren?t players over there.  Wiki says 310 players from Europe have played in the NBA.

It?s like saying WV high school recruits are trash because 4 WV players didn?t turnout, then Jon Elmore arrives and changes our thoughts of WV players.

The last 3 NBA MVP's were two Euro players, Giannis & The Joker.

Right. What happened when he left early?

I?d say he was pretty much the main reason we got a tournament win.

Cool. Not disagreeing? but still that?s only one successful Euro the entire time DD has been here. There?s been 15 busts to the one Penava.

Has there really been 15 or are you joking.  I can only remember a handful.

  • you have to judge/assess every player on a case by case basis, doesn't matter where they come from.  however, DD's staff has failed on their assessment of euro players.  what, one in about 7 players were above avg, most below avg??  nothing personal, they're good people but Goran and Marko need to go after this year and so do 2 or 3 American players.  just the honest truth

  • One thing the Euros we have brought in is most have shown at least something early, but then for whatever reason they just didnt develop anything. They don?t even develop that main skill you can see early.

I always thought Nikolic would have taken off after his freshman year. But he didnt really play off ball well and the regression happened when that became a bigger need thanks to Elmore/Kelly/Taylor existing.

The fact that we are still bemoaning his loss says a lot about our recruiting and lack thereof.

  • there is undoubtedly a lot of talent in europe.  i don't think anyone could honestly dispute that.  but we don't seem to get 'em here at marshall.  peneva was a big piece of our team . . . that 1 yr.  all the others DD's brought here have been practice meat.  & i have no idea what he's doing with goran.  he shouldn't even be dressing, nonetheless starting.  dan needs to realize there's practice players, & there's gamers.  just b/c goran must be scoring against beyers & the FR Sun-Wed is obviously no indication he's going to do anything at all on Thurs & Sat.  that's extremely obvious to everyone at this point 18 games into the season . . . except dan.

1 out of 20 would seem to be the exception and not the rule.  Nice try, though.  And for 2 years he was trash and he finally paid off his 3rd year and left early.  So yeah I think trash is a good word.

Without him we?d have no tournament wins and as soon as he left the team fell apart.

Also the statement was that they were all ?trash?.

    Nice try though.

  • 1 guy for 1 year.  You're obviously nitpicking hyperbole.  You knew what he meant.  Or maybe you aren't capable of telling the difference.  They were all trash and still are.  But so are the Americans that DD recruits for the most part, by and large.  It's not their origin it's their evaluator.  He's not seeing how they will translate to D1 ball.  Has no idea what level they should be at BEFORE they come to a D1 college team.  He makes them better but they are so far down that better is a walk on at many other schools.

If he wants to pick up a guy for a year and see what's up, then fine.  But if that guy can't get meaningful minutes by his sophomore year then he needs to be let go and open up the scholly for a real player.  DD let's them camp here with zero contribution.  It's not admirable.  It's a recipe for disaster.  And Penava wasn't the reason why we sucked in 2019.  It was the lack of developing any other big to step in and take his place.  Meanwhile we had 40 guards on the team.  (That's hyperbole again in case you missed it. I know we didn't really have 40 guards on the team, before you tell me.)  We haven't had a competent big that was healthy or the appropriate weight for their height since then, either.  Might be why we still suck, despite Penava being gone for years now.
