Think it necessary to put some timeline with these results, for example, I think we have the upper hand with App State in the most recent games.  We played ULL in a bowl in their home state, and did as well against them as anyone in the country last year except Texas I believe.  Most recent games against GaSO, same with recent wins versus losses.  And anyone reading this board knows our recent success against USM.  If we don't win at a high level from the outset, I'll be surprised.

  • Like another poster stated, the Appy series needs some context. We joined the SC in 1977 when Frank Ellwood was our coach. Sonny followed Ellwood and finally tied WCU 1980 for our first non losing SC game. We started out 0-4 against them. We were really a bad program when we joined the SC. We started out in a big hole in every SC school series.

By the way, according to Wikipedia; Frank is living in Dover, Ohio and is 86 years old.

We lost in the championship game by one point to NE Louisiana.  Tony Petersen was our QB.  They had a QB named Humphrey who played several years in the NFL.  Perhaps NE Louis. is now LA-Monroe.  Also during those 1-AA days, under Jim Donnan, we went on the road to Lake Charles, LA, for a playoff game against McNeese State.  Herd won the game even though they were rated No. 1 in the 1-AA rankings!
