  • I doubt the new AD will bring DD back with this meltdown and results the past few years.

However, if he does come back, it?s not going to get better unless he brings in great JUCO/GT players:

Point guard, shooting guard and 5 man

Starters, not contributors or we will blow donkey again

As seen above, he has a PG coming in next year and is hot on a shooting guard for the following year. In fact he is in touch with a shooting guard for next year too but the competition for him is VERY tough
Today, I consider myself, the luckiest man on the face of the earth..

  • I find it laughable that any fans on this board would refer to Jacob Conner as a PG.  The kid handles the ball some for his high school team but that does not make him a collegiate PG.  I am not downing the kid or questioning his overall game but to think he is going to come in and run the point for Marshall next year is crazy talk.  Successful collegiate PG's at the D-1 level need to have either lightning quickness, incredible strength, or a combination of both.  This kid has neither.  He might get minutes and he might dribble the ball on occasions but calling him a PG coming out of high school just shows how brainwashed some posters have become.  I expect him to get some time, much like this year's freshmen, but to show that he just isn't quite ready for the speed and quickness of the college game, just like this year's class that was dubbed as "the greatest recruiting class in history".

  • I watched the video where Alter knocked off Moeller.  My assessment was that he was a decent shot and he passed well.  I don't think he was quick enough to play point guard and to be honest I didn't see much defense from him.  Alter did have two small  guards that were very quick.  They could drive and shoot from outside.  They were too small for D1 guards.

Please tell me that no one was stupid enough to dub this years b?ball recruiting class as the greatest in school history. I never saw such a post but if one was made, that?s freaking hilarious.

I would be shocked if Connors can play point for us next year.  He looks skilled but honestly another 3-4 yr project. Next year I see him more in a 5-8 min game role similar to Braun.  We need a 22-23 yr old man from the portal to give us a chance at a good season next year.

This statement I believe is where Dans problem lies.  Dan is in touch with A shooting guard.  He needs to bee in touch with 5-10 shooting guards and whoever commits first gets to play here.  He also needs to be in touch with a bunch of point guards.

Wow, this is just??..detached from reality. Our roster is atrocious and needs a complete overhaul. We cannot compete in CUSA with this caliber of players.

I am now convinced it?s time for DD to retire

Well, Dan needs to WIN enough of those "very tough" recruiting battles, Herdmeister!  How else does he expect to win enough games against the "very tough" opponents we do play?  It's been established that he can't accomplish that with too many run of the mill recruits and too many "projects"!!

so for those saying, 'eh, let's give him 1 more yr to see if he can right the ship.'  why?  what makes you think he could?  from what y'all are saying, he's bringing in a kid to play PG that y'all say there's no way he can play D-I PG.  we have ZERO perimeter shooters, & he's trying to convince A (1) SG to come here.  as mentioned, we don't just need george's & beyers' scholarships replaced, we need 2/3 of our freaking team replaced!  we are the bottom of the barrel in CUSA!  we're just gonna roll along replacing 2 players every season til we get a legit roster before he turns 80?!

Article just out on the MTSU game tomorrow night notes that the HERD is shooting a sizzling 26.5% on three-point shots which is also at the BOTTOM of CUSA teams!  Our foes, the Blue Raiders, aren't much better ranking 12th out of 14 League teams.  Folks sitting in the floor level end zone bleachers need to stay alert during the game for any errant "bricks" these two teams may launch, since their rosters are loaded with "sharpshooters"!!

That's great.  But when you're top recruits sign elsewhere you don't just stop and give up,  but you go on down your list until someone says yes.   With all the kids in the portal there is no way you can convince me there wasn't options out there to make this team better and who would have been happy to come to Marshall.

  • Calling Conner a PG is a little off but he can be the primary creator from the 3 or 4 like the poorest man's Dreymond Green. He seems to have a good head for the game. However, if we expect him to come in and save this program... We're full of it. The kid is 6'8 and weighs under 200lbs. He's going to need time to adjust to the game.

I've enjoyed DD's tenure here. Love his style of play. But, someone has to come up with some new ideas in regards to recruiting or we are going to live in the basement of whatever conference we play in.

That just shows that he went after the wrong 3 guys.  Maybe he should have contacted 25-30 guys and brought them all in and found out which would fit and would be willing to sign.  Offering 3 guys obviously wasn't enough because it didn't get the job done.  No more excuses.  I'd rather hear DD say "I screwed up the recruitment of this team and some of the players that are here right now probably should have gone to lower levels.  I'm going to fix that as soon as the season ends."  If he came out and said that, then I'd be thrilled to let him make another run as long as he recruited entirely from the portal and JUCO ranks with any vacated scholarships.

Instead, we will hear that the guys will decide if they want to come back and if they do, we will stick with what we've got.  We don't want to punish them for our mistakes. Blah, Blah, Blah.  That's garbage and if you think differently, then you're wrong.  College basketball is a business and in business when you make a mistake, you fix it immediately and move forward.  Simple.  DD needs to man up and make some tough decisions or get out of the game.  There is too much at stake for his continued indecisiveness.

I don?t think commenting on who or how many DD offered is making excuses.  If he?s correct and factual, well a fact around here is a refreshing change up.
