True, but is there truly ever a good, secure place to be a head coach in the NFL?

oh. I'd take the job no doubt but he is almost doomed to fail. If he does succeed there, he'll be the highest paid coach in the league in a few years.

  • Given the fired the last HC in-season, they will probably want to give the next HC a fighting chance.

  • He has always been a stud!  I wouldn't ever bet against him.  In the NFL money really does buy championships unless you the Cowboys, but if anyone can overcome adversity BL is the guy.  I am an intent Bucks fan now.  Maybe he can convene Brady to go with him.  lol

  • Jacksonville has a young QB and the number one pick in the draft.  There are far worse situations to walk into.  Hopefully Byron will get some commitments from the front office to make some changes, but I'm more bullish on this situation that many are.

  • I feel like the critics and haters of him as a jags QB will double down on their criticism of him as their head coach.  I just hope he has success and continues a career as a head coach.  I feel like the jags fans will be quick to run him out of town.  I just hope he shows enough to get another HC job.

What makes it a bad place? Pre-covid/Urban they were a perennial middle of the pack attendance team with the likes of Arizona, Tennessee and Patriots. Their owner is top 5 wealthiest owner and he has invested heavily into the stadium and surrounding areas to create a fan friendly atmosphere. He wants to win. The weather in nice. They have some good players to work with and a top young QB.

Sure they haven't been very good lately but had some success a few years ago. I don't think it's an organization that creates failure, they just need the right coach to succeed. There's plenty of NFL teams that are toxic from the get go and I don't think Jax is one of them.

  • Wish Byron the best as he is one of my favorites and is a warrior.  He also relates well with his players.  One of my neighbors was a coach with him with the Arizona Cardinals and said Byron was great and well liked.

  • To have chance to succeed in the NFL, you have to have talent at the QB. Trevor Lawrence has that kind of talent. Plus as another poster pointed out, Jags have the number 1 draft pick this year. For these reasons alone, it is a better opportunity than, say, the Bears, Vikings, Giants, or Texans.

  • Per Adam Schefter, this is not a done deal. Hearing rumors that there are some stumbling blocks in contract negotiations.

  • Don?t jump the gun on this. I wonder if New Orleans coming open yesterday has piqued Byron?s interest.

Jacksonville probably has a better QB situation at this point but the Saints organization has been superior long term? and while Payton/Brees were the main reasons, they also did well in totality on both sides of the ball over the years.

  • Jacksonville's current ownership has a terrible track record.

So does about 25 other owners. Not many NFL teams string together back to back wonderful coaching hires. The only stable NFL teams have lucked out on a good hire and that hire has stayed put. No reason that can't be Byron in Jax.

It was reported by a historically accurate writer. Schefter is the only one to dispute it.

It's literally the worst job in the NFL. You can polish a turd however you want, but it's still a turd.
