  • Cam definitely improved as the season progressed. He's a mile from where he started. That said, he's still ten miles from where we need our starting QB to be. He needs major improvement in his passing game. No way can we go into next season with the thoughts that Fancher has it locked up. He's simply not there yet. Not even close.

  • I would bet good money that Cole will not play at Marshall if he isn't clearly the best QB on the team; that decision would be way to risky for any coach to take. If he ends up #1 at some time in his stay at MU, we'll all be able to believe he is the best we have.  He is a smart dude, he understood that when he signed. And I'm confident his father would have it no other way.

It will be harder for him to start here than anywhere else he'd have chosen, or may choose, to go.

  • Best of luck to Zamora.  I was rooting for him this year.  Time for someone else at another school to do that.  Peace out Pete

  • i'd agree that he's far from "locking up" the job & assuming the others will just compete for backup.  we only averaged 21 ppg in his 6 starts.  if we plan on winning championships again like we used to 25 yrs ago, we've gotta do better than 21 ppg.

  • Cam looked great for a FR the last few games. I love his dual threat capabilities, and I love that he has improved each week. If he continues to improve in the off-season like he did during season then he?s going to be a STUD.

I?m excited for next year mainly because of his improvements. I think we will know a lot more after the bowl game as well.

  • I'll guarantee cole probably has more football IQ than all the other QBs combined. When your dad was a great college QB and played in the NFL, your coach and a Rhodes Scholar, then you have had a LoT of info absorbed inside your brain all your life. Just don't count him out. If Cam is the guy then fine but I don't see a great passer from him even if he improves. I don't want to settle for managing games. I want a guy that can grow into putting the team on his back and winning games.

Chad Pennington was not a Rhodes Scholar.  He applied and was a finalist but was not chosen.

  • Sounds like Zamora may not share our various board experts analysis of Fancher's abilities

Agreed.  It seems like he knows he won't catch Cam on the depth chart and possibly some others.

  • Jury is still out on Cam but he has improved quite a bit in the last few weeks.  He?s the most athletic QB we have had maybe ever.  Can?t remember a QB that could take it to the house running the ball.

Bernie morris would run circles around cam, but can't throw it as well, and cam isn't much of a passer, lol.

  • Cam improved about as much during the season as any Marshall QB I have seen in some time. Possibly Cato during his Junior year. Other than that, it's been few and far between.
That being said, Cam will have to continue to improve his passing skills, accuracy and touch to take it to the next level. IF he can do that, he can start the rest of his career here and we can win with that. BUT, Huff needs to find the best QB he can, whether on the current roster or via a transfer. jmho.

  • I'm excited about Cam Fancher, and his back-ups as well. I feel that two more will leave as well, one before the next semester starts and one before the next fall practice starts, when a new recruit shows up.

And had Morris had Pruett look out.  Way better
