Topic: Why are Herd Fans afraid or against uniform changes?

The brand & culture I would like to establish and maintain is WINNING. If they want to wear black to change things up, wear black. Let's just enjoy the wins.

Sure.  But we can have BOTH!  A brand and culture of winning AND a recognizable color scheme/uniforms.  It's not like we have to chose between one or the other...

I live the style of the new uniforms and like the black, just not as much as we wear them.  I like alternative uniforms in both sports but it seems we are wearing them more than green.

I don't care if we wear black, my only issue with it is that it's completely uninspired. It's like we didn't try to keep up with current trends and instead went back 15 years and made the most basic black unis.

Why can't we do something unique ever? Maybe a coal dust uni, toss in some yellow somehow as a throwback to the pork chop, Moss sock unis, or a dark green uni from our hunter green phase.

Instead it's like we went in and said what's the cheapest possible black set we can get. At the end of the day if the players like it then who cares what I think.

Here is the thing, let the students and contributors vote on the colors on occasion.  If they want black, propose it, but quit casting it on folks who've in the past elected and supported Kelly Green and White.

When you use it too often, it becomes and identifying element, using it only on occasion makes it an anomoly and very much more acceptable.

By the way, remember hat these colors are registered and IP protected.

So it matters both emotionally and financially.

Before we were the Thundering Herd we were the Big Green. Our booster organization is the Big Green. The black uniforms look terrible as a regular thing - they should be worn ONCE a year. If you want to be the Big Blacks instead of the Big Green, head up Rt.2 and watch Point Pleasant.

Except 34, if and when MARSHALL adds another women's sport, say Beach Volleyball, then NO pink:  it should be strictly "nude" for that sport!!  :D ;D

If you recall, the fan base relentlessly harped on Hamrick to get us in Kelly green when he was hired. We had been Michigan State, OU and other varying degrees of hunter green for years.

Kelly Green is distinctive and looks great in person and on TV.  The white and Kelly is a great contrast and the names and numbers pop on the jerseys.

I have no problem with black accents, or even having it for a game like we did with the pea pods, but to have so much black when every single bit of your branding is a big Kelly green block M is just bad marketing.

Initially, i liked the black accents and occasional "black out". Now, i am getting sick of it. I hate the black basketball unis. It just doesn't look like Marshall. My kids literally walked in with the basketball game on the other night, and i told them Marshall was playing. They watched for a minute and my daughter said "no they aren't daddy". I said they are the black team and my boy said "that's not marshall. Marshall is green".

And I agree. When i see black, that's not Marshall.

This^^^ is why we shouldn't allow black unis and from what 24 kids pointed out. When kids start complaining it's not Marshall, then there is a BIG PROBLEM, because they are our future fan base.

Black once or twice a year. The rest should be green and white. I love the black end zones and black trim around the court and lanes. Uniforms not so much!! Green and white uniforms really pop more on TV and Marshall is easy to read.

Yep, and not nearly enough of them. I look around in the hartley room, etc before games, and we are the youngest people in there that i can see, by far, and I'm 37

I could care less if we have black uniforms or not.  Our black football uniforms are great and our helmet was awesome.  I am almost 49 and it doesn?t bother me even if we wear them a couple times a year. I have been around enough younger people who love the black look. The kids are the future.

I am not a big fan of the black basketball uniforms especially as much as we have worn them. I am curious where the green ones are or even if we have any.   I haven?t been able to find out an answer to that question.  Personally I am not a fan of the script on the jersey. I like other font better and names on the uniforms.  I don?t understand that at all. 

Our brand is fine. Just win and everything else will take care of itself.  I have work grey shirts and been stopped plenty to talk about Marshall.  Our Kelly green is the best though and looks good all the time. I just don?t get alll caught up in the complaining about black. Just win!!!

To be honest I was the one that put up the post "Burn these uniforms".  I seriously thought the black uniforms where dark green until i finally saw a close up of them.  I am not real big on the all black unis, but if the players like them so be it.  So I will retract my hate for the black unis, and just say i prefer the others.  In the Christmas spirit i will try not to be an old Scrooge!  I get pissed off at others bitching about pointless things all the time.  I want to post positive things and not be negative so i will not complain for at least 3 days on this message board.  lol...
PS.  I don't mind us playing around with the uniforms a little, but i think the general colors should stay the same.  Also if they win they can wear anything they want!

I am not too much of a Scrooge.  I would love to see a Randy Moss tribute uniform with all the athletes wearing kelly green and white cat n the hat socks.  I think that would be really cool addition to an existing uniform combination.

I think because it was an official change and drop of Kelly green that bothered people. If Marshall announced we were retiring Kelly green for black the backlash would be insane. It wasn't just alternate hunter green unis.

Having said all that we should do an alternate hunter green or yellow. At least it would be interesting and unique to us instead of jumping on a 10 year old fad that's already over.

Wore silver and gasp!!! Gold pants in Sonny's say.  This trend shall come to pass. Fans would crap their pants if those helmets were resurrected (I'd love it).
