Topic: Random thoughts after RM game

(1). Horrible officiating.  Weak foul calls.  Questionable traveling calls.  Really affected game rhythm.

(2). We are a good team.  To be a great team, in my opinion, OAK has to be way better.  Plays too soft.  Shoots ill advised 3's.  Not a great passer.  Seems like he has regressed.  He's easily our biggest "soft spot".

(3). Taylor was uncharacteristically lax with the ball.  Way too many turnovers.  It's gonna happen.  Glad it was against these guys.

(4). Kinsey really playing under control and letting the game come to him. 

(5). Somebody else off the bench needs to see minutes and contribute or these 7 guys will be worn out as the season goes on.  Maybe early, maybe Toussaint, heck maybe even Goran can give us 7-8 productive minutes a game.

(6). A win is a win and I'll take it but this was the ugliest game of the year for me so far and some of that is attributed to the high school like officiating.

8th man should ( must ? ) be Goran. Ive seen Handlogten, Conner, Fricks, and Obinna get pin-balled out of there against mediocre bigs that we have faced all season.

What do you think will happen when we face talented bigs ? I'll tell you. We're gonna be hurt inside big time, and when Micah gets in foul trouble we're gonna get killed inside.

Bust says Goran slows us down and he does.  But Toussaint is not the answer as the 8th man. We need the size, weight, and strength of Goran ready to play. We don't need him to score. We need him for rebounding and defense.

Agreed.  Goran's stat line each game should be 10 minutes, 2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block shot and 3 fouls.  Take some heat off Micah who gets called for chippy fouls.

I feel ya!  I always said he was hard to watch.  But he could have a role as a rebounder and foul machine so that Micah can get breaks and we can stay with a big lineup.  But I know what you mean.....I never thought I'd say why isn't Goran getting PT!

i think the staff is doing a good job with distribution of playing time.  different games/opponents cause different problems (and how refs call games sometimes).  we really do have interchangeable pieces so it makes it really hard for some players to get playing time, but they have to show they want it and can do it in practice. 

i know these guys are young, but being in the top 7 or 8, Connor and Fricks have to continue to improve under adversity and so does Toussaint.

would Goran even be in good enough game-shape to come in?  i could see Early coming in some but we've got a lot of 1 thru 3 guys as it is- so, the best have to play.

I am still waiting for Fricks to show more.  He seems to be a liability on defense/rebounding because he gets bullied underneath.  He shot lights out for the one game, but just seems to be out of sync?  Hopefully he will find his rhythm and start to contribute more consistently.

Not heard a thing . Its just in this day and age , leaving a program has never been easier and when youre not getting any PT , take a chance somewhere else , no sitting out

Short memory ? Fricks has been a Road Warrior. Conner has played well but he was scoreless against the Dukes.

I still think Early has earned 6-8 mins per game which would allow us to rest our guards a little more.

Other than that, I love the rotation. No we don?t need Goran. We can just play zone if necessary when Handlogten is out.

I agree that a more effective sub for Micah is needed, whether Goran is capable of that, TBD I guess.

I'm more worried about the depth in the back court. Both Kinsey and Taylor are playing nearly the whole game every game.

Agree!  I have watched him a lot and he seems to stand around - and a step slower reaction -  He had 1 rebound last night and played a lot of minutes.  He is a 3rd year player and is athletic but doesn't seem to get involved especially on rebounds!

We compete much harder on the glass compared to any team Dan has coached. The defense is way better. The freshmen just need more experience. Handlogton and Fricks both had questionable calls against.

Danny wants to develop Conner, Fricks, Handlogten, and even Toussaint with every available minute. And they underclassmen. I get that.

This crew might hold serve underneath and on the boards at the Cam. But 8 out of our last 12 conference games are on the road and I'd say we'll lose 3 to 5 of them due mainly to deficiencies inside. Either directly or indirectly by having to collapse and leaving people open on the perimeter. Any chance of an at-large bid will go out the window if that happens.

We need a few minutes from Goran and Early here and there to get them mentally and physically ready. If miss the byes for conference tournament, and there are 3-4 serious competitors there, we will need the depth even more. Taylor has been short on his shots a lot and I believe it is due to excess minutes and lack of mental sharpness.

Our defense at RMU was good but they missed a lot of uncontested outside shots as well. Running at the perimeter shooter helps but won't work against the cream of the crop. Those steps / taking off without dribbling calls were legit. Taylor has been getting away with them at home but needs to reign in his technique. Curfman has found a good number of teammates for open looks with the cross-court passes he likes to make, but some have been terrible and teams are also becoming aware his tendency.  22 turnovers ! Most of them unforced, this team needs to get better.

I think the RM game was more of coming in not focused and taking them lightly more than fatigue. I don't want to start playing 2-3 more in the rotation and destroy the way we have been playing especially defense. When you start playing Goran, Early, Toussaint minutes you will start looking more like last year. I can see one of those for a couple minutes a game but you give all 3 4-6 minutes and you start messing with chemistry.

He was playing well before the injury. Not a good outside shooter but he was playing reall well around the basket.

Honestly I like the thought of he and Handlogton rotating at the five and give more of the 4 minutes to Conner and Fricks.  Plus Conner can take some of the 1-3 position minutes to give guards a break and give him more minutes.
