  • The guy took a lot of flack last season (rightfully so at times). But let us give credit where it is due. He has done some nice coaching off-season, pre-season and during this season. I am so impressed by how this team plays. 10-2 right now and that Queen's loss seems like a blur after watching that great brand of basketball today.

Coach D'Antoni makes better in-game adjustments than many people think. Good move after the first media timeout of the second half to have Kinsey guard Dennis (who is a baller). He really took Dennis out of the game for about a seven minute stretch.

The development of Handlogten is awesome to watch. Shot-blocking is big. But his passing from the high post is uncanny for a 7 foot freshman. If we can slowly get OAK going, then the sky is the limit with this team.

How about D'Antoni's inbound plays?!?! Not only does he get the ball to Kinsey, but if the Kinsey gets the ball and can't shoot, then immediately you have a screen-and-roll action coming with Kinsey and a Goran or Kinsey and a Hanlogten, etc.

D'Antoni always has a nice set coming off a timeout. That is good bench-coaching. I have never seen a Marshall coach that always gets a player a good look coming out some sort of timeout.

I just think Coach D'Antoni has done an awesome job. That game today was fun to watch. And that win was over a quality mid-major.

  • Also putting Taylor off the ball to get him going offensively. Taylor hit the corner 3 as soon as he did that.

Thank you! I meant to type that one in. You are exactly right on that.

  • I have no problem with giving him and his staff and players credit. I also will give Bust and HM credit in that recognizing these freshmen and what they could bring. Still will b some bumps but when you play with the intensity like today, I'll gladly give them their due.

  • yes, he is coaching better in-game this year than any other.   perhaps partly because he went out and got some good players in the '22 class.  like someone speculated before, maybe coach Williams brought some different views to the coaching staff, woke DD up a bit, who knows?

Goran played pretty well overall- kudos to those who said we should play him a bit.

so far, UNCG, Queens and Toledo are decent teams-  i think we beat them all best 2 out of 3 -or- 3 out of 5

  • Well, give a lot of credit to BOTH Coach D and his staff AND the players themselves.  Obviously, the former had the team give more attention to their foul shooting and the players did just that.  We shot very well, in the 80 plus percent range, from the foul stripe today.  We shot UNDER 50 percent at UNC-G the other night and this was, IMO, a significant factor in our loss.  Now let's get a good win over Glenville Monday night, sending the team into a well-deserved Holiday break with some good momentum, and then come back to start Conference play right before New Year's Day by kicking some butt versus Appy and JMU at the CAM!!  GO HERD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks I appreciate that. When Conner and Handlogton were the only 2 in town practicing during the summer, we could see they were special. And remember Conner has been injured since the Chicago St game. He is limited in what he can do right now. And the longer Curfman plays the more value his is to this team. Like someone else said, if we can get Oak going more on the offensive end the sky is the limit with this team.

Well, if you say every team and every class is special, eventually you'll be right. Lol! (Just bustin your chops) Obinna is a key piece. He just needs to find his role, and unfortunately, most of this season he thinks it is on the perimeter, when he needs to be in the paint.

Obinna is critical to the success of this team

Great D, and now needs to rebound a bit better and score more but closer to the basket

  • OAK needs to finish at the rim. He has been much too passive in his finishing. Play the offensive end with the strength he shows on defense and he will be fine. His FG pct on 2 point shots should never be under 50%.

Finishing weak at the rim is a problem with pretty much everyone on this team

Go strong and dunk the Fing ball

    Go Herd!

Yes and the worst part was shooting 43.8 percent from the foul line.
Coaches and players really improved on it with the FT percentage being 83.3 against the Rockets. Going into the UNCG game the overall team percentage was 61. Hopefully by season's end it will be in the mid 70's.
As everyone else posted the coaches and players had a great game!!!

For putting together a weak-ass schedule. Let's see what happens when the SB starts and he cannot pick and choose.

Toledo would be a top 4 team in the Sun Belt.

  • Of course Coach DD deserves credit for the team having success.  The schedule is weak and should not have been so weak but it is easy to see the team has improved in all areas.  The defense is much better, shooting better and the guys play well together.  DD has to find some guard play on the bench.  We saw what happened down in Greensboro. There are going to be games where we don?t shoot well and make some mistakes?I just thought in that game we looked very tired and reverted back to mistakes of prior years.

I worry how we will be in the sun belt tournament playing consecutively without rest.

It was nice to see them bounce back after the loss in Greensboro.

No way you go any deeper than 8. We start going 9-10 and you are bringing back the guys that went 12-21 last year. Danny is going to use Conner to relieve Curfman and Taylor if needed. Fricks is going to play and Goran when needed. Toussaint had his chance and Goran stepped up last night and will get those 6-8 minutes now.

Yes, it is fairly weak. I was thinking last night this could be a big detriment late in the season if push comes to shove. I wish there were a few marquee names on the schedule this year just so we could better understand the ceiling. I don't want to take any credit away or diminish the team, you play the games on the schedule.
