  • 1. Back on track! A dominating 15 point win over Toledo, and the team looked better than ever. Toledo brought their absolute A game tonight, and so did we, and we are much better. We couldn't have beaten them with a B game.

    2. Goran - Put in some good minutes! Kid is playing well, i look for him to continue to earn more minutes. Had 4 points, some tough inside rebounds. Took plenty of flacj for believing he could contribute to the team, but his role will continue to grow IMO.

    3. Micah - great game, but still scratching the surface. Believe he had 10 points to go with his rebounds tonight, but if he was more aggressive on offense, he could have easily had 16.

    4. Taylor and Kinsey just killing it. Kinsey is having the best year of his career by far.

    5. New cam - I like the floor, hate the tarps. Problem we have now is 4000 or so of those tickets are already sold, and 1/3 of them are emoty unfilled seats so our arena is going to have 3000-4000 butts in seats at best with the tarped off heaven. We need to heavily restrict tickets given to businesses through learfield and I am saying this as someone who has 10 in our IMG contract. I do my absolute best to make sure every ticket is used every game but I kmow this isn't the case with most.

    6. Obinna - Man he didn't have a good offensive game but he played hard and tough on defense tonight.

    7. Conner - Aside from a beautiful steal leading to a bucket during our run, he was a ghost tonight.

    8. Curfman - this is the curfman that takes us to the next level, that 3rd 15 pointish scorer we need.

    9. Free throw shooting!!! 20 of 24. Amazing performance considering the season and uncg game. Great job whatever we did to fix that.

Overall - team played fantastic and took Toledos best shot and stomped them. We play at the level we did tonight, we would be very tough to beat. Period.

Nice walkover win on Monday and we are headed to Christmas break with a 11-2 record. Not too bad gentlemen, and looking forward to conference play and hopefully the road to a sunbelt title and march madness! Go Herd!

  • 1) Gotta find a way to get Taylor rest but we have no one else who can run the Point. Early is only option it appears so get him coached up to at least play 5-10 minutes a game to give Taylor a rest

    2) Dunk the Fing ball for Fs sake lol

    Great win and Go Herd!

  • Couple things I would differ with. Yes Goran is playing better and should get 7-8 minutes a game. But his role won't increase much because he just isn't near as good as Micah. Second the tarps look great imo. That dead looking bleacher ghost town up there looked awful empty. It brightened that area up and looked clean and nice. The floor looks awesome. The wood grain is beautiful and just enough black to make it pop. Conner is playing injured and has been for over 2 weeks. This was a very good win and another dominate outcome against every Mac teams we have played.

  • This Herd team if makes the big dance is the type of mid major team bc of its roster makeup to win a round or two.

    Star player / scorer
    Scoring guard
    3 pt shooter
    Size
    Shot blocker
    Length
    Bench points

No he isn't better than Micah, but he is more aggressive, and more of an offensive threat and bigger body. Micah is gonna have trouble putting in 25 minutes every game because of foul trouble primarily. If conner is injured he shouldn't be on the floor as a non contributor.

Micah's hands and rebounding are light years better. But I agree Goran can give us some decent minutes. They threw him a pass as soon as he came in and he lost it out of bounds. Micah has tremendous hands and a great rebounder. Also he is a very good passer from out top. Micah is getting 13-16 rebounds almost every game lately.

  • We are a very starter heavy team , DD is going to have start getting some bench help or it might come back to bite us later in the year but so far so good

Very little bench help. Fricks, Conner and Goran is going to be it. You start throwing more than that and you start losing the play we have seen. Monday we be a good chance for them to rest and then they have 10 days before the next game. When Conner comes in he can play the 2 and let Curfman and Andy rotate out to get breathers. 40 minutes doesn't seem to bother Kinsey at all.

Some of the 'coaches' on this board was wanting a shorter rotation of 8-9 players anyway.

  • Agree with the OP as to Goran.  He'll get some solid PT until Handlogten gets more confident and assertive OFFENSIVELY.  Danny commented on his body and that he is stronger than he appears.  Still working on his S&C and overall game.  Needs to power up to the basket more when he gets some O rebounds, throw down some occasional dunks, etc.  Still only a third of the way through his initial season of D1 ball.  He and Obinna both ramp up their offensive game/production, and we get some solid minutes from Goran like tonight, and this team has an offensive complement that warrants defensive attention, which means more, easier and or better opportunities for our outside firepower, Taylor, Curfman, etc., as well as for Kinsey to create and ramp up his mid-range to the basket arsenal to even another level!!  That's a hell of a lot of "BIG O" for opposing coaches and defenses to try and cope with, guys!!

  • I think it's funny. One year, it's "we need to get the rotation down to 7 or 8, nobody can get a rhythm" then it's "we need to have more people in the rotation".

We are fine. With the exception of needing to get Andy 3-4 minutes a game of rest, we are ok. We have Micah, a surging Goran, and Toussant at the 5, Obinna, Conner, Fricks, at the 4, Kinsey is a 40 minute machine, Taylor is good for 35-36 minutes, he can do 40 but the fatigue in shortened rest windows is apparent, Curfman seems to be good for 30. We can go bigger to those 3 deep positions to rotate rest between curfman and Taylor, not to mention, I truly think Early can provide those 5-10 minutes and be ok. 8-9 players in a rotation is plenty, we just need to manage it effectively. I'm not sure what the average rotation in college basketball is, but i am betting 8-9 is pretty much the average.

  • Edit: so i did some digging and turns out that 7-8 players is the rotation for 62.6% of college teams, with less than 7 adding 16
7%. So basically 8+ player rotations are only present in 20% of teams and 9 is far less.

So comparatively, we are at the sweet spot where chemistry, familiarity with each other, and consistency meets adequate rest among peers. More or less than what we rotate, either hurts energy and player happiness if that matters to you, or hurts on court performance and chemistry/consistency. We are fine.

Exactly. We don't need to go any deeper. Why do people think we have totally turned around from last year? It's called 3 freshman and Curfman added to Kinsey and Taylor. It looks like Danny is going to go with Goran instead of Toussaint when he needs to bring in another 5. So basically Conner, Fricks and Goran will be the 3 off the bench. Glenville will be different and should see everyone.

That's been a trait among some of our "imports" in terms of recruiting.  Sound fundamentally and with the "mechanics" of the game but lack the raw athleticism and basic quickness to turn those assets into production in game situations.

  • I think the rotation is great except for Taylor playing too many minutes. He?s worthy of the minutes, I?m not saying that at all. Just concerned with it being such a long season or if he gets in foul trouble. I only want to see us add 1 more person to the current rotation, and that?s Early. Give him 6-10 mins a game depending on production and rest our other guards a bit.

I think Early has played good in his limited action this year.

That was established and discussed, as well as the point that an injured player that contributes nearly nothing to the game shouldn't be playing.
