  • I'm happy with Huff this year.  He could have lost his team about 1/3 of the way thru the season.  He kept them together and they played hard for him the rest of the way.  I would expect to play for a championship every 2-3 years.  I think we need some competition at QB for sure.

  • People were all over Docs balls even after choking in CUSA but want Huff gone after going 9-4, beating ND and winning a bowl. Lol!

We act like this year is the only year we've had QB issues. Granted it sucks but with the exception of Cato , we haven't  been good at QB for multiple years since 2002.

    Exactly.
And as of yet, Huff hasn't exactly solved that problem either.

  • Did he really regress though? He had about his normal avg game. The interception is not normal but the rest seems pretty on par aside from maybe one or two more longer pass completions.

    Sadly, you might be correct.

I have not seen one post on here saying that anyone wants Huff gone. What are you talking about?

  • So 7-6/8-5/9-4, no title and some meaningless bowl win is all you want to see for herd football? We'll, you're in the golden days of Marshall football then, have been for a while.

If it includes a win over a top 10 team on the road, sure.

And so at the end of year TWO, Coach Huff has one such victory!! And now in year NINE in HERD basketball, our HC has exactly how many of such noticeable wins over similar, or any, MAJOR foes?   Anyone?  Anyone?  Buehler? Buehler?  Anyone . . . . . . . . . . . ?

Yeah, if no conference title by the end of the 2024 season I say make big changes. And change the uniform back to green and white now.

  • Well next year we can schedule Glenville, Campbell, Queens,  Eastern KY and some other lower level schools just to pad our schedule. You'll be good with that I am sure.
No, we can schedule Norfolk State, Gardner-Webb, and play in our bowl game against arguably the worst bowl eligible team this year, though. And Huff will go around pounding his chest like a big man on campus for months. Just like Danny is now doing until he starts losing when the rigors of the Sun Belt schedule catch up with him. And we need to end this "man in black" color scheme for both revenue sports now. Huff hasn't worn green in weeks. He's behind it, at least with his team.

  • Come on guys!  Did we get where we wanted this year?  No, BUT Huff has us improving and next year we can win a Conference championship.  Not a bad year and the guys are really proud and excited to win their bowl game!  Can we be happy and proud for app their hard work?  I can!  GO HERD AND THANK YOU!

I don't mind one tune up for football or b'ball. We were forced into the GW game due to quick move the the SB, but lets not let the facts get in the way. Football needs to play a P5 every year and a couple of solid G5 programs - UCF, Boise, etc. Basketball needs to play Dayton, Richmond, VCU, OU, Pitt, Va Tech, Belmont, UC for OOC. This allows the kids to compete and if successful, set them up for an at large IF they don't win the SB, or at least an NIT bid. I'd bet good money they'd rather play those teams than Glenville, Queens, Chicago State, etc.

  • I don't think anyone here is happy about the lack of championships over the past 20 years. It's just unreasonable to blame Huff for anything that happened in the previous 18 years before he got here. Same for blaming him for the two FCS games or the time, date, or opponent in the bowl game.

I could go on a tirade about he offense this season but I won't. Huff's record improved since last season culminating in a 9-4 season with a bowl win and a win in South Bend. There's a lot to be grateful for.

That being said. I fully expect further growth and full rebuild of the offense next season and a championship by year 4 or he should be sent packing. Until then, I'll enjoy yesterday's win.

  • How can you watch the gatorade bath then the post game presser where Huff is choking up and not believe he cares about Marshall/Huntington and the players. I bet these players would run through a wall for him.

I also found it interesting that Huff mentioned the wild message board speculation when discussing the truth behind Ali. I'd imagine the story behind the OL coach is just as straight forward, despite the wild rumors.

I have seen this sentiment from a couple of posters. Huff seems humble to me. I'd rather sit down and visit with him than any coach since Saint Bobby. Interesting how perceptions vary.

  • The goal is to always learn in life.  My opinion is that Coach Huff learned some lessons along the way.  He was a little full of himself post ND, got blasted for his comments about Huntington (as he should have) got blasted for losing home games ( which he should have)...

Then when the season could have been wasted was able to win down the stretch to make this a rewarding season with a victory over a national brand and then a bowl win.

That appeared to be some genuine great emotion yesterday by him and the players...it was refreshing verses the opt outs you see from other teams.

  • Like most of you, I didn't appreciate Huffs words and actions after his first season in Huntington.
Knowing how he felt about us, changed the way I felt about him.

After seeing his interaction with the players and emotion post game, he moved back up a step on my ladder.

I don't know him or his wife personally but our social circles intersect considerably. Like to the point that I'm actually kind of offended that we haven't met outside of briefly shaking hands at The Peddler awhile back. Everything negative I've heard about him or his family on this site has been BS. I don't even know where it's coming from.

I don't remember the exact quote about Huntington that pissed everyone off but when I originally heard it, my interpretation was that "it's hard to recruit young black guys from Miami to live in rural West Virginia" and my first thought was "yeah, no kidding". Recruits need to fully buy into the system and want to come here.

I like the guy and can see plane as day how well he resonates with players and I desperately want him to succeed. I don't know if he will or not and am honestly kind of doubtful he will. If he doesn't, it's not because he's an awful man. The world isn't so black and white. Same thing with Snyder, Doc or DD. This stuff gets way too personal.

It's not our color that's why I'm depressed seeing black. So tell me, are you ok looking like Appy State, Cincy Bearcats, and Southern Miss? We're Marshall! and we have the most beautiful color kelly green and white..

  • Yeah, I am.

My issue is in between.  I liked black as a rare alternate uniform but it has turned into being way over used and our Kelly green being diminished.  As many have stated, multiple teams wear black, green gives us an identity.

I understood the black end zones because the turf is green, but the basketball floor should have had green lanes and baseline.

I don't like the black uniforms but the basketball court is awesome and I hope they never change it. Replace all chairbacks with bright Kelly green and that arena sparkles. I'll also take black anyday over that dark ugly green.
