when Chuck Landon describes coach D'Antoni's philosophy as defying a national trend, we knew it, but when put that way it does make me think. we recently saw a very good video of coach Huff and his complete awareness of the situation and that his philosophy is somewhere closer to the middle of the stream. yes, it's true the sports aren't comparable but that's not my point.
during the off season i was happy to get a shooter in Curfman but like many fans i didn't think it was enough and that we should probably get one or two more.
i didn't know Handlogten would be a star. we thought Conner would be a contributor and he is. we didn't know McKey would get hurt. we hoped Toussaint, Fricks, Miladinovic, Sarenac, Early and Braun would get better.
back to topic-
i respect coach for believing in something and sticking with it. as i've learned a little more and calmed down a little after some bad loses, i would agree that the TP needs to be used wisely/selectively for basketball. even if there is no guarantee that a (any) player will work out, the same goes for HS freshmen.
i think my conclusion, which many fans probably already came to, is that you can compromise, that some years may require more and some less. maybe it's not realistic, but i want the Herd to be a perennial top 40-64 program. the TP is one more tool to help achieve that. NIL is another beast altogether that will somehow also need to be tamed, but maybe less so (naive?) and similar to the TP if kids reciprocate loyalty to a truly loyal program.
