Let's look at Marshall's last great QB, Rakeem Cato. He had an okay freshman year, but I believe he did get benched at some point that season. Then look at the leap he made in his second full season as QB. Look at Fancher's freshman stats, their not that much different than Cato's given Fancher had almost 70 fewer pass attempts than Cato. I'm not saying that Fancher is the next Cato, I'm only pointing out the leap a QB can make from his first to his second season.
As a freshman in 2011, Cato completed 182 of 304 passes for 2,059 yards with 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
As a sophomore in 2012, leading the nation in passing yards per game, he completed 406 of 584 passes for 4,201 yards with 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. With an outstanding season he won the Conference USA MVP.
