  • Fancher rushed for nearly 500 yards as well last season. I agree he needs to improve, but I watched him escape and move the chains last year at critical times when no one was open down field.

Can he take the next step? I sure hope so because our schedule is good enough for an access bowl berth if we can put it all together.

Fancher?s ability to run is something you rarely see at a G5. He is an elite QB in terms of his speed/running ability. He honestly doesn?t have to be an excellent passer. With our running backs he needs to be able to throw well enough to keep defenses honest and not make stupid decisions.

If he is a decent passer who can stay healthy running the ball then look out. I would say it?s possible he rushes for 1,000 yards next season. He rushed for 500 last season as a FR who only played half the season.

He?s not a pocket passer which is what I think some people are comparing him to. He brings enough other things to the game that he can be less polished as a pure passer as long as he doesn?t make stupid decisions.

I?m excited for him and think he has the potential to be the best dual threat QB we?ve had.

  • Unless the coaches are convinced, we have a solid 2 QB then I doubt Fancher sees many opportunities to run the ball unless it is to escape.  Risking injury to our only viable QB would not be a wise decision unless the season is on the line.

Fancher can make big improvements in the off season and it will not matter unless his teammates improve.  The OL and WRs both need to make improvements.  We have the size on the OL but we are young.  We have 10 freshmen or red-shirt freshmen and only 6 upper classmen on the OL roster.  If the strength and conditioning staff can make some headway improving quickness and strength in the off season then we should see an improved OL if we stay reasonably healthy.  The tackle position must be a position of emphasis.

WRs must create some separation and give the QB a place to throw the ball.

With 4 days remaining until the transfer portal window closes it will be interesting to see what Huff does.

  • His accuracy was far from abysmal. Getting to the point that being a starting QB at MU, with the support of your coaches (their choice) is very lowly thought of.  I'm going to give the coaches more credit than you, and trust they know what they're doing.

I mean, last year it was pretty much out of desperation once Colombi was injured.

I have hope Fancher can be the guy. I'm not slamming him or the coaches for starting him last year or for making him the #1 heading into this year. As I said, I think he was hampered by a lot of other factors, including reportedly his own injuries.

But in what world was his accuracy even approaching average last season? 55.7% was 111th in the nation. Just saying he's got to improve that greatly.

  • I'm not really arguing, but please, if you have the time, find some stats on Freshman who didn't start until the fifth (I think) game of the year.  Would love to see how many of those guys are inside his numbers.

  • Most everyone in this thread is gaga about Cam Fancher. I, for one, am not. His TD/Int ratio is bad and I question his throwing accuracy. His running prowess seems to be his only asset. I don't think Fancher can take the offense to a winning level. Best wishes to Cade Cunningham in future endeavors.

  • When Fancher was a freshman in 2021, Huff inserted him late into the FIU game with a 38-0 lead, and he threw 2 or 3 deep downfield passes. Does anyone wonder why Navy and Central Connecticut State opted out of coming to scheduled games in Huntington this season? Navy replaced Marshall with a home game versus Wagner; CCS opted to visit Kent State instead. Huff bought himself a trip to NC State in lieu of the Navy game. We'll see how he fares there.

Navy had added Notre Dame in Ireland the week before our game. They needed the week off. We then had to change game dates due to adding NC State and C Connecticut wasn't available.
Financially Marshall came out well with the Navy schedule change

This is a big time loss for JMU.  I could also see other kids with only 1 year left depart now that their waiver was denied.

Many of us were skeptical of Leftwich and Cato in their first years as a starter. Or do you have a problem with Huff more than Fancher?

He is a pro style QB at Rice 2022 statics: 160 completions, attempts 266 for 2102 yards. 18TD; 14INT 45.3 QBR 97. He started out as a walk on at Mississippi State and then went to a junior college (no stats) before playing at Rice.

Interesting they we are offering a pro style QB. I would think that this means the coaching staff doesn't think our backup QBs are ready to play this year if Fancher gets hurt? Maybe the coaching staff think McMahon might push Francher more than the other backups? Coach Huff has stated that good backups make the starters better players in the past.

His father's name is Jim McMahon, but his mother's name doesn't match the pro player's former wife's name per wiki. I am not sure since I am using wiki as a source; which is not always a reliable source. I would think his bio at Rice would mention if his father played pro football.

We will have to see if he can contribute if he signs with MU. MU doesn't have the NIL money to bring in a top a transfer QB. Look at a top college QB like Joe Burrow who left OSU for LSU. Top QBs are probably the most sought after player in college football.

I'm curious as to what lead you to believe Fancher is an ultra fast elite runner?  He put up respectable rushing numbers, certainly not great numbers and he rushed for 0 touchdowns for the whole season. I'm not saying he's not fast but I haven't seen it in the games he has played in so far.

I'd love for him to rush for 150-200 yards a game with 2-3 rushing touchdowns.  I'd be a lot less worried about matching offenses with teams on our schedule.

So we're basically recruiting another Henry Colombi, very average senior QB.

466 rushing yards for a QB in only 7 starts plus a couple backup appearances is more than respectable.

He didn't have 0 rushing TD's because he had one at Georgia Southern. His overall lack of rushing TD's has more to do with our offense being anemic along with using Laborn and, later in the season, Ali to cap off drives.

He's not an "elite" rushing QB, but he's got some wheels and is clearly a more effective runner than a solid majority of college QB's. Just needs to improve to a somewhat average and accurate passer.

  • If Fancher can improve on his accuracy I believe he will turn out great.  Also, Trickett needs to call plays to help him succeed.

Lol kind of the secret of every QBs success, right? Fancher doesn't have that. Hasnit been that long since we seen him throw screen passes 5 yards over the WR head or 5 yards into the turf in front of them? Lol

It won't take long this season for that to be apparent. I'm just praying Fancher doesn't start or is pulled after a couple 3 and outs before we lose to ECU in the second game. All that speed he has but we still lost games scoring 7-13 points, and our defense pitching shut outs to win 12-0 over awful teams. People put way too much stock into how we finished, beating some very bad teams down the stretch and an awful uconn team in a bowl. We have a great schedule this year and a lot of opportunity. But we are throwing it in the trash with Fancher. Just the truth.
