  • According to The Athletic.

Colorado now has 67 scholarship players on board for 2023 after landing a commitment from Marshall transfer receiver EJ Horton on Thursday and adding Washington transfer edge rusher Sav?ell Smalls, a former five-star recruit, as well as transfer cornerback Omarion Cooper (Florida State) and receiver Tar?Varish Dawson Jr. (Auburn) earlier this week. To get back to the 85-man scholarship limit, the Buffaloes would need to add 18 more.

  • Horton, who will be a junior, is a 6-foot, 180-pound speedster who has been clocked at 4.3 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Running indoor track at Marshall this past winter, he posted a 6.95-second 60-yard dash in one meet, placing second.

Horton caught only 16 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns during his three seasons at Marshall, but most of that production came late in the 2022 season. Horton played special teams for Marshall and sparingly on offense before the end of last season. Marshall had some injuries at receiver and Horton got more of an opportunity to play on offense late in the season, taking advantage of those chances. He caught 12 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown in the Thundering Herd?s last five games.

Horton was not with the Herd this spring and announced his intention to enter the transfer portal in April. He received at least 12 other scholarship offers, including from BYU, California and Mississippi State.

Rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports while at Pulaski County (Va.) High School, Horton verbally committed to Kent State before his senior year in the summer of 2018. Current CU offensive coordinator Sean Lewis was going into his first year as the Kent State head coach at that time. Horton de-committed from Kent State in December of 2018 and wound up enrolling at Palmetto Prep Academy in Columbia, S.C. After one season at Palmetto, Horton signed with Marshall, where he played in 19 games over the past three years.

Was just going to ask this.  People commenting on that national coverage raked Huff over the coals when he mentioned that in the press conference to the point they even said he was trying to keep a black coach down, not knowing that Huff was a black coach, too, lol.  They said it wasn't true, not that they'd know.  They said it didn't matter.  So Prime can do what he wants even if it's unethical.  They said Huff was just mad he couldn't recruit like Deion.  Also ignorant of the fact that he recruited for Alafreakinbama and was ranked and awarded as a top recruiter in the nation.  Would love if we had actual evidence of contact prior to this transfer and shut Sanders the hell up.  He definitely contacted a guy enrolled here and in school in the past whether by mistake (too lazy to follow up on his own prospects) or by design (unethical).

Either way I hope he doesn't win a game.

I don't think so.  I think Huff referred to an incoming guy that was on campus but could still leave before classes began.

Horton been here and booted for domestic violence charge.  I'd say he's a fast guy that was in the right place at the right time as Colorado needs players.

  • Umm, let's see, he's played in 19 games in the last 3 years, got out of high school in 2018, and in all his various and sundry travel stops since, he has amassed, I'd say, about 30 to 40 HOURS towards a degree.  Such is life here in the Portal Era in College Athletics going into the 2023 season!!!

  • I noticed EJ Horton at the Bowling Green game.  Those of us sitting together all noticed it.  He sat by himself on the bench.  I don't remember him interacting with any other player.  He think he played special teams, bur nothing else.  Even when the game was over, he stayed by himself.  We remarked that he would probably be in the portal after the season.  It seems like he played a bit more late in the season, I imagine due to injuries.  Seems the portal is the way out for a new start.  Looks like it will have a big part of the college game, like it or not.

I don't blame him. If you had seen some of their spring game. Colorado looks like a High School team.

  • Deion bringing in lots of talent. How that translates to field success a big question.  He and staff won't be coaching against resource restricted programs anymore but he's going to be given at least 4 years imo to figure it out.
"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity; they seem more afraid of life than of death"  – James F. Byrnes

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

40 players are gone since the Spring game, most were encouraged to leave.
