  • Yea.  How dare he not pass up life changing money and instead stay for a bunch of middle aged men so they can live vicariously through him.

    Hating Andy is beyond pathetic.

I don't hate him.  I just don't give a 💩 about what happens with him from here on out. And if 250k is life changing money, you need to get off the fry line at McDonalds.

A couple of things, the money may be short term life changing but not true life changing.  2) there is not the venom towards Micah like there is towards Andy.  Andy waited, had MU get him what he asked for to stay, then used that to negotiate another deal.  He is a liar at a minimum.

I don't know man. Maybe for you it's not, but 250K would pay off my mortgage and all other debt I have in my life right now. That's pretty life changing, and I don't exactly work the fry line at McDonalds.

I wish Taylor would have stayed, but he didn't so it's time to move on from it.

  • If a quarter of a MILLION dollars isn't life changing "financially" to you, congratulations.

Commitment, love of family and friends, prayer, all these are life changing too, just in a different kind of way.  This can last a life time.  Money doesn't, at least most of the time.

Anyway, I'm glad he's done what he wanted to do. He came here because he wanted to, he left here because he wanted to.  Done Deal.

    Next player up.

  • I have to work 5 years to make 250k. I don't work at McDonald's either. 250k is absolutely life-changing money. It's not "quit your job and never work again money," But, it would absolutely change my life and alleviate a lot of financial stress.

As for Taylor, Screw him. I root for Marshall, when you're no longer a part of Marshall I don't care about you. However, I don't usually wish ill for kids doing what's best for them, but the way Taylor went about it. Going back and forth, waiting until the 11th hour, and putting our program in an even rougher spot than it already was, is why so many have contempt for Taylor.

  • I thought Marshall did the best they could to keep him here. I, too, don't like some of Taylor's way of handling business. I think we tried with our resources to keep him here. I don't blame a guy for going for that type of money. If you are in your mid-20s, then you set yourself up to start life in a great position. But I don't think the guy was truthful with our coaching staff.

With that said, it shows that you have to constantly recruit at every position and make roster moves when necessary. While I thought we gave a great effort to keep Taylor in terms of our resources, we sold out to him in terms of roster management. You just can't do this in the modern era. You must build a roster to the best of your ability and not worry about someone's feelings. 99% of the time "loyalty" and "likeability of a coach" will not overcome 5 or 6 digits.

  • Just to be clear.....I'm not 💩 on $250,000.  I probably should have left the "McDonald's fry line" out of my response.  I guess it's all about perspective.  When I think of LIFE CHANGING MONEY, I envision millions of dollars.  In retrospect, 250k could be life changing for someone with a mortgage and existing debt.  Apologies if anyone took offense.  Just don't think that amount is life changing for a guy who still has 45 years of work ahead for him.

  • Andy got 400K, plus an additional 10K for committing on his visit.   This is all cash.   Also received a car, not leased but to own.   Parents and GF have free flights to and from to see him at anytime.   Not one person on here would walk away from that at 22 years old.

I'd say he did very well in his negotiations. That kind of coin will certainly jump start his financial future unless he blows it like many athletes do.

Good for him. He would be crazy not to take that.

I?m not mad at him. I?m upset that we are stuck with a geriatric head coach who doesn?t understand how to navigate the portal, or recruiting in general.

  • IMO, these deals like he's getting don't do a lot for getting those "on the fence" about giving to NILs to start giving.  i won't say AT isn't worth anything at all, but nearly half a million dollars for 1 yr?!  for him?!  that's crazy!!  again, i would love to know the literal NIL services he's gonna provide that are worth half a million.

what a waste of money.  i'm glad those running these NIL funds at some of the schools aren't the ones in charge of my retirement investments!

Just curious where did you hear the above or what is your source? That is fairly detailed information that you are posting. I did a quick internet search and the only numbers I have seen are from Chuck Landon and even Chuck said it was a rumor.
"There were rumors of $400,000 offers being tossed around. Whether those reports were true or false, it gives a compelling indication of the kind of pressure Taylor was enduring."

  • I hate to have to tell you guys this, but how much you think he's worth doesn't mean squat.  I doubt you think all those NBA players are worth $20 million or that a Shake Shake hamburger and fries are worth $20, but somebody is going to pay it. This is really year 2 of the NIL thing and it is just going to get more and more expensive to keep your stars. Salaries of pro athletes go up not down and SEC schools had no problem distributing bags of cash before it was legal, you can bet they'll be all in now.  Heck, why waste time competing for 3-4 star high school kids when you can throw cash at someone who has proven value at the college level.
