I don't know how the recruiting piece would translate at the college level, but Missy Smith from Herbert Hoover high school was named by Maxpreps as the best high school girl's softball coach in the nation.  She developed 5 state championship teams back to back to back to back to back.  The last one was 30-0.

She definitely can coach them up.  She probably won't get an invitation to interview.

Congrats to her, next person up.  She earned the opportunity through success; can't wait until choosing to stay at MU is a gratitude and reward for success to our coaches too.  Seems like those who stay long are far more that adequate, but also less that excellent.  Can't wait for that day to change....

Indiana made it to the NCAA Knoxville Regional this year.  Lost twice to Tennessee.  IU has a lot of young players and a bright future ahead, so I don't think there's any chance she would come back to MU.

I hate to lose her, but it speaks well of MU when a larger school comes in hires our coaches. Look at MU history with successful coaches; we have lost good coaches to the SEC; ACC, and the Big 12. I rather lose a coach to a wealthier program than keep a mediocre coach on the payroll. A coach at MU will get hired away or fired; getting hired away means the coach was a good one.

Can't place any blame on her for going back to her alma mater - I just hate the current college sports climate.  Word is she is taking our 2 best players with her.

She got a commitment from the best player in WV in the ?24 class.

Technical question.  If the portal is "officially closed", and the 22-23 school year has ended, will any players leaving MU to go to UNC have to sit out a full year before being eligible to play for the HEELS??

I would think Morgan Zerkle would be a candidate. She's been an assistant at Little Miami the last few years. That program is on the rise. MAC champs this year.

A lot of people throwing Zerkle's name around, but I don't think that would be the right move. Most assistants don't get their first head coaching gig in a bigger conference than where they are currently at. I also do not think that Marshall's softball program is in a position to take a bit of a risk like that. If we are wanting someone with Marshall ties Melissa Frost would be my first call.

There are a lot of quality coaches out there in many avenues, D-II,D-I,  D-I Assistants, and Elite Travel Ball. Spears has an opportunity to bring in somebody that can meet or exceed the levels we have been at. On paper his women's BB and Men's Baseball hires look solid, I would expect something along those lines too.
