  • But none of the four or five star players that you seemed to be thinking of flocked here before Danny. Coleman was a four star. Canty was a three star, Kane a three star. Maybe you can think of another four star we landed? Your original point was that Danny wasn't landing four and five stars like we have in the past. Fact is, we never do and never have. Again, not a D'antoni issue.

Ok ok let's split hairs. Regardless those recruits are light years ahead of what Danny gets and everyone knows it. But Danny does let them fire away to get their points. Recruiting sucks and there is no other way to put it.

  • I would be happy if Dan just recruited or signed players who had other mid major offers. Too many of Dan's recruits are not even low level Division 1 players. Just look at his recent recruits and the players on the bench, a lot of them belong at a lower level of college basketball.

  • I've been puzzled for many years on D'Antoni's recruiting. While many were offering praises, I waited to see what the players could do against competition from other schools. I've never been one to praise a recruit before they play a single second. I prefer to wait until the regular season starts.

  • The thing that bugs me is that DD's recruiting has gone downhill since he started.  While some can complain about his entire history of recruiting, his early year's recruiting was much better than what we have on the bench right now.  Yea Elmore fell in his lap and DD had little or nothing to do with his being here. But, Peneva, Burks, Kinsey, West, Loop, Browning, Janson; all were better than anything we have on the team right now.  DD may not have been a world setter from the start, but he has only gotten worse as time has worn on.

That fellow readers is the real problem.

Well we moved down conference wise in basketball so why try and recruit the same or better. Just try and finish in the top half of the conference I guess is good enough. The biggest thing that has pissed me off is there is no urgency with Danny. He is comfortable and his recruiting proves it. Guys that are hungry, trying to make a name for themselves and wanting to move up doesn't keep a third to half his team on the bench that can't play D1 ball. They try and make their team better all the time like Huff does. And make no mistake, Huff has bigger plans that he wants to accomplish because anybody would. My biggest problem is stop worrying about pushing players along because they will get an education somewhere else. Worry more about Marshall and your fanbase for goodness sakes.

maybe.  for me it's because there's a bit of desperation for a difference-maker or two after the off-season losses and especially after what many of us consider a season of lost opportunity.

It definitely says something about our program that we are hoping a walk-on can save us.

  • DD recruited some of the best players in Herd history.  I think what has stopped us is physicality and high athleticism players (maybe raw).  Some of his selections are great.  But philosophy has maybe stopped us from more titles.  Champ teams are physical and highly athletic.  Russell Westbrook athleticism but not on that level .. lol.

  • The guard from UMES will be athletic.  Get him space and open looks. He will score.  He might have done more in recruiting this year than we thought.  It?s up to the others guys already here step up??  Portal makes it interesting in college b-ball.

He has got a few and Elmore fell in his lap through Greg White. And he allows his guys to shoot it as much as they please to pad those stats. Also Kinsey played a full 5 years. So yes he has got 3-4 that was good and put up numbers. But at the same time, he is unwilling to try and stack his roster with talent and is ok trying to ride one or two players. Recruiting has been a huge negative for him and being hard headed is even worse.

  • I agree about holding onto players too long that don?t contribute.  They could find others homes even lower level.  DD has not cut the chord on players to stack his roster.  With the portal and Juco and good Hs players it?s easier to do this.  But he will lose his best more than not.

Voyles didn't even make third team MEAC. He is not a difference maker and can't even replace one of our loses much less Kinsey and Taylor. And word is Martin has a terrible shot from outside. Guess that is why he had no stats from 3. It boggles the mind why we recruit so many kids that can't shoot when our system is all about shooting from 3.

He was injured if I?m not mistaken.   Use full context when attempting to be a full time pessimist.  The Texas State kid also doesn?t NEED to have a good outside game.  He?s big and physical which is what we need

Voyles played in 20 games and had 15 assists. Need I say more? And I thought Dannys system was all five players need to hit the 3? Isn't that what he told us when Obinna missed something like 23 in a row? So now we have a player that shoots much worse from outside than Obinna. And Martin averaged 8 points a game for mighty Texas St. I'm just stating some facts. I have had season tickets for decades but will be giving them up this year and I really hate it. But we will not support, as long as we see lazy recruiting and allowing players that can't play at this level, continue to sit the bench year after year. I'll be back once that changes no matter who the coach is.

o.k.  see you later.  come back and see us here when you get back on board with the basketball program.

I share many of your concerns but I don't see how walking away now makes any sense, especially if you made it through Jirsa.

I've come to the conclusion Danny doesn't care about the fanbase when he allows D2 kids to sit the bench for 4-5 years. He says he won't run them off because he made the mistake of recruiting them. So the fanbase has to be the ones to suffer? And yes I sat thru Freeman and Jirsa. But there comes a time enough is enough. Either they get serious about basketball or why bother? It's not that I dislike Danny at all because I really like him as a person. And the frustrating part that led me here is not that he can't get the job done, but he just won't do what is needed to do it. And I'm not alone, because I know of 5 different groups of people that have had it also and aren't renewing. I can sit at home and watch a half hearted effort easier and cheaper than showing up. When they start recruiting like a D1 program and care about all 13 scholarships I'll be back.

I was planning on keeping tickets also. But me and my daughter discussed it and decided to give them up. Either wait for Danny to change his recruiting philosophy or a new coach is hired. When I get to this point, it's pretty bad because I have been a die hard since 71. There just isn't any urgency whatsoever. Actually looking more forward to football this year. Go Herd!!!

I?ve said this about Danny in the past.  He loves Marshall but realizes his dreams are well?.just a dream.  He has a contract and money so why at his age would he move forward?  I don?t blame him one bit but I do question his superiors.  Our roster is a complete joke!  The administration should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen to our beloved University.  I don?t even know why we have coaches on the bench because obviously they have their hands tied behind backs.  I mean who in their right mind would be ok with recruiting other than a guy getting ready to retire?
