  • Evidently the coaches feel good about where we are in the QB room or they would have pursued more players. Jmo.
Fancher has a chance to be a difference maker in our season. All depends on him and what he and Trickett can do to get the offense on track.

  • Here is an athlon article about Fancher.

    https://h5.newsbreakapp.com/mp/0nDV890r?cv=23.26.0.38&platform=0

I watched this whole interview.  I like Trickett a lot more after both this video and last year's preseason press conference.

One thing I bet people probably don't realize is that this is not Trickett's offense.  He said so in last season's preseason presser, that this is Charles Huff's offense, based on Huff's philosophy.

In this video they ask Trickett what offense he prefers he says Y-cross Air raid.  So definitely different than our 65% run / 35% pass -RPO scheme, we run.  I imagine we'll be closer to 50/50 this year, with are QB making the Run Pass Option reads at the line.

Trickett did talk about learning Jimbo's pro style offense.  He reminded everyone that during his time at FSU in the QB room was Christian Ponder, EJ Manuel and Jameus Winston all NFL caliber QBs he went against.

Trickett was hired at Last Chance U and also hired by Lane Kiffin to run his offense, so he knows his football.

  • Soon, naysayers like myself will find out if the 13-10 (FBS) and 2nd and 3rd place divisional finisher Charles Huff is the Anointed One, or that if Marshall should start looking elsewhere for this person. I don't want to see a coach being allowed to linger for six (6) seasons without a conference title like Doc Holliday was allowed to do in the past.

Trickett doesn't have the accurate passer needed at QB to run the Y-cross.  Huff is recruiting to his style offense.  It is easier to recruit running backs than quarterbacks.  We may get to see this season whether Trickett is a QB whisper.  Huff must have seen something in Trickett to promote him to OC.

The Y-cross would be the exciting offense many Herd fans want to see.

Do you think Huff really wants a RPO based offense?  If so, the QBs he is recruiting does not seem to be the typical RPO type QB.  I think Huff is basing his offense on his QB abilities.  Hence the quick short passes with Colombi and the RPO with Fancher.

We definitely are building an RPO for Fancher.  Will we always run it, probably not exactly this offensive scheme.  Huff's philosophy is a balanced offense that is multiple / adaptable that is unpredictable.  It's grounded in running the football, it seems.  The thing about the RPO, with a good RB,in terms of the QB, is it takes a lot pressure off the QB, in a lot of ways.  The QB reads the 6th guy and if anything is fuzzy or confusing always hand the ball off.

The run RPO we're running mainly, switches or audibles from pass to a run, using a running back.  I would say imagine the QB always has the option to keep.  If we're smart hopefully we limit the QB runs to about 5 a game, unless it's a huge game.

I have heard Fancher say twice in interviews of how much care the coaches have done only putting on his plate what he can handle.  Which speaks to what everyone is saying about expecting the greatest leap in QB skill from freshman to sophomore year.

I have also heard Coach Huff talk about down coaching to make players and plays successful.  Taking a player's failure and pivoting to situations that give them success and teaching them to succeed at what they failed at originally.  He didn't say it but I think he was talking about QB.

I know Fancher will be improved and our offense will be improved.  We'll really see against VT at home.
