  • Don't know the truth to this rumor but the word on the street, here in Lexington, is that Marshall will be playing at Rupp Arena this year.  Maybe Herdmeister can confirm, or deny, that rumor.

  • Would be nice but I doubt that happens. Unless DD approved a buy game.

  • Sounds about right since we won't have a good team.

i'm probably in the minority, but i really miss not having more opportunities against the neighborhood, storied programs.  the pride or principle thinking sometimes loses the point many fans consider priority.

This makes sense, rumor since April we are supposedly playing a money game this season and UK fits the bill. I mean we have played Virginia, Indiana, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Florida, etc. under Dan so it isn't like this is something new.

Also suppose to start and 1 for 1 with a mid major conference team (like Missouri Valley conference team).

  • Agree about some of those possible $$$ games.  I've wondered with our recent success getting games, including the home one, with VA Tech in football if we have approached them for a basketball game, or maybe a home and home series, with VA Tech, which is pretty reasonably "nearby".  Easy travel for teams AND fans!  Their HC, Young, seems pretty personable and went to Tech from a Mid-Maor program, Wofford.

Maybe MU should try to "melt the ice" a little with WVU and suggest a game, or games, in Charleston, as a starter, perhaps, in the newly renovated Civic coliseum and Convention Center.  Believe with Sports friendly current City Administration and Mayor there would be all for it.  Also, with a new AD in the Hole, and Huggs busy elsewhere in Drug/Alcohol Rehab activities, etc., the time could be right to approach such a game, etc.  Of course, would help if ole Geeky and bow tie were no longer on the scene, too!  Just a thought.  Would also like to see MU approach schools like Tennesse, and perhaps Wake Forest, both not really that far from H-town and Southern WV, about possible games also.  Wake also coached by a recent Mid-Major HC, Steve Forbes, formerly at East Tenn. State.

  • Not sure that will work?.during Covid when both teams were in need of games WVU offered us a very nice payday to come to Morgantown to play and DD declined.

And year before last WVU offered a home/home in Morgantown and Charleston and DD declined.

I have heard that DD was informed he needed a payday for a game or two this year so will be interesting what he and Mark put together. UK would be a nice trip and a nice check.

  • i would like to see us get back to playing wvu, but not while we're traveling around with this majority D-II roster.

but i'd only be interested in long-term arrangements if they involved games on both campuses.

I don't think Dan wants to play good teams, I bet he would play an out of conference schedule made up of completely Division 2  schools if had the power or really poor DI teams. He is probably more concerned with his winning percentage than taking the program to a higher level. He or his supporters always have an excuse not to play good teams. We hired a high school coach and we got a high school coach.

What upsets me more is the MU administration is happy with being mediocre or irrelevant in Division 1 basketball. We seemed to be hiring good coaches in other sports to run their programs, but basketball gets a pass. Basketball can be a big money maker or generate support for the school, but we don't seem to care.

  • Well, regarding UK, on June 26th, the SEC announced the 23-24 Conference slate for ALL SEC teams.  So now any games that League schools need to schedule will be out of conference ones.  SEC play begins on January 6th, 2024 and ends on March 9th!!

Gee, wouldn't it be nice if the "Leaders" in the SBC would consider their FANS and do something similar!!  At least let all League schools know when CONFERENCE PLAY STARTS!!  Would help schools still working on their OOC schedules know when dates are free to try and schedule such games!!!

Hey bust, old saying is that "you can't win if you DON'T PLAY"!!  Of course, way Danny apparently avoids WVU and other "MAJORS", his approach is "you can't LOSE if you DON'T PLAY"!

The disagreement remains the same.  Wvu isn't coming to Huntington nor do they want to play all neutral in Charleston.  We should decline, the wvu fans in Charleston enjoyed the neutral game as did the Charleston community, it was cancelled due to a fat drunk's preference.

Don't disagree about the Drunk, Bison.  But don't be under the delusion that all HERD fans are in the "Huntington Community"!  Although I'm sure there are still many in the We Will City, Holy Rollers perpetually stuck in the 1950s, who still believe that, and love to call MU "the Huntington School".  Like I say Huggy's gone, Gee can't be that far behind, and maybe some progressive 21st Century leaders at both schools will eventually see some positives in both schools playing each other in more sports.

  • December 28th.

NOTHING on the SBC site, 35, as to the start of conference play except there is an article about the SBC-MAC "challenge" which the HERD is NOT participating in.  All other basketball articles posted over the last few months concern the 2022-23 conference season.

  • Dan appears to want a winning record.  So I don?t see him wanting a UK on the schedule, when Pike can be scheduled.  In ten years, most won?t remember who Danny played, just the number of Ws he had.

not sure your point.  I certainly don't think MU is the Huntington school and I typically see a greater percentage of fans and supporters from Charleston, Teays Valley or out of area folks on the west lot than Huntingtonians.

We should still decline any unfair series.  All neutral or rotating through neutral site and both campuses.

Not exactly true.  Spears as the new guy, had pressure to keep Dan with all of the connections to Justice, his sister in the BOG and his brother.  Spears may make the schedule but you can bet your life Dan is the one telling him who to schedule.

Definitely not saying that is "not" true.....however I just find it hard to believe that DD & his staff don't have any input into a schedule. I would think that other schools would also contact DD, his staff or even the AD or president in regards to possibly scheduling a game.  I personally have absolutely NO DESIRE to travel to Huntington to watch "cup cake" games (and we don't even win all of those, which is sad).
