  • We built our football program in the 80's and early 90's with successive hires of Parrish, Chaump, and Donnan, none of whom had any ties to Marshall or WV. And we continued on with more success after each one left for other jobs.

Our only top-level national championship coach was born in England.

Brad Smith was a great hire because he led one of the most successful software companies in the world. It's great that he's from here, but it's extremely rare to have somebody on that level who is.

The point is that hiring only from within is a loser mentality. Yeah, some good people come and go. But then you just find some more good ones.
I just wonder about the recent apparent official team changes in the color scheme. I noticed in the official online branding guidelines for Marshall that the color white was deleted (or maybe white is not considered a true color per se as it is neutral and thus was omitted), and that the color black was added. But the guidelines also stated that BLACK was ALWAYS to be used a secondary highlight color to GREEN. Who in leadership seemingly inverted this official guideline to make GREEN a secondary highlight color to BLACK in team uniforms? Was it an employee one with previous Marshall ties? Or an employee without previous Marshall ties who wanted to change the color scheme solely to suit his/her whims? I tend to think the color changes are emanating from an employee in the latter category (non-Marshall ties). But the changes in the color scheme frankly suck.

  • Good one 2X Bison. What was a supposed leader of the state's flagship university's men's basketball program doing driving alone in Pittsburgh drunk over the legal limit three times with a bunch of empties in the vehicle? I thought one of the news outlets here stated that it was in a state owned vehicle.  Maybe he was looking for some horizontal enjoyment? What an absolute fall from grace, and the biggest fraud perpetrated on WVU sports fans ever.

Shucks beau42m, Huggs was probably just "innocently" driving around the Burg looking for a place where he could get a deposit back for all those empty beer bottles, and perhaps even sell some of the empty beer cans, too!!

  • Gonzaga, Wichita St., etc. put a ton of $ into their basketball programs.

It is much easier to do for the two specifically mentioned when you don?t play football.

Look for black to be around for quite some time, at least until Nike makes kelly green a color in their palette across their line.

  • In the past Ky has always seemed unreceptive to playing MU.  Could our soccer ties have melted the ice a little?

yeah, i think the problem with UK has been with FB.  i don't recall them refusing to play us in BB (they aren't gonna come here, of course).

  • I don?t see MU keeping this one within 25-30. I?m afraid this year?s team is going to be pretty dreadful. So glad DD was offered an extension 🙄

  • I don't think Dan wants to play good teams, I bet he would play an out of conference schedule made up of completely Division 2  schools if had the power or really poor DI teams. He is probably more concerned with his winning percentage than taking the program to a higher level. He or his supporters always have an excuse not to play good teams. We hired a high school coach and we got a high school coach.

What upsets me more is the MU administration is happy with being mediocre or irrelevant in Division 1 basketball. We seemed to be hiring good coaches in other sports to run their programs, but basketball gets a pass. Basketball can be a big money maker or generate support for the school, but we don't seem to care.

I?m glad that it?s getting around that DD is nothing but a high school coach.   I?ve preached that since the day he was hired and got BLASTED for it on this site.   His coaching style sucks.  His scheduling sucks.  His gameday planning sucks.  His recruiting sucks.     Plane and simple HE SUCKS.    %^&* can his ass and hire somebody who knows what they?re doing.

Cant understand why last year he watered down the schedule with a better team and this year we play a Kentucky? The things they do makes no sense at all.

He watered down the schedule last year for one reason?.for easy wins thinking it would help get a postseason invite and we didn?t even get a sniff

Nope!! He said he wanted an east schedule to get the new guys confidence. But we had Kinsey and Taylor and now we don't have either and no PG. and we are going to compete with a better schedule? This could potentially be the worst season in many years.

  • We should be playing at least 3 games against power conference teams every season no matter how good we are.

Glad we scheduled UK even if we do lose by 50.

I don't anyone will enjoy it. I was at Fairfield on 10/29/1977 when Louisville beat us 56-0 and I didn't enjoy that.

I'd actually prefer piling on the power conference opponents this season. We're gonna have a horrible record with no chance of postseason play, so why not make some $?  I'd rather go 0-5 vs the UKs of the world & be a couple million richer than go 0-5 vs MAC/MVC/MEAC & have nothing to show for it but embarrassment.

I agree with the one reason theory, but disagree with your interpretation.  He needed the record to save his job after the previous season and being on a one year contract.
